We believe the best way to protect nature is to make its value clear to the financial system. If we can bring nature onto the balance sheet with data that demonstrates its value, that makes it an asset, then that asset will be valued and protected. With that thesis in mind, we're excited to announce our investment in Meridia, alongside ICE, Regeneration.VC, SAGANA, Edaphon, Cerigo Investments, and Cecile Sother's Sabi Fund, a €5.2M Series A. Meridia's Verify platform is trained on the land title data of the majority of the world's cocoa and coffee, enabling customers such as Cargill, Unilever, Barry Callebaut Group, and many more to gain transparency on the origin of their commodity supply chains. This lets them reduce and eliminate deforestation due to european demand, fulfilling their obligations under the EUDR, while placing a value on the nature and ecosystem services they rely on to deliver chocolate, coffee, and other commodities to customers. This is just the beginning, and we're beyond excited to be on board! 👇Read on below to learn more about why we invested, and why we're so excited 👇 Julie Pullen Peter Olivier Yumna Yusuf Troy Cross John Henry Clippinger Jack Wielebinski Gregory Landua Will Szal Austin Wade Smith Amer Vohora Pablo Alonso Aja Tracy Barba Gordon Gould Courtney Nichols Gould https://lnkd.in/d97t9f83

Global food systems involve a range of players, including farmers and producers, input providers, processors, exporters, logistics partners, sellers and consumers. Competition can drive innovation & efficiency, benefiting everyone. “When companies and farms compete, they strive to improve their techniques, resulting in higher quality products with more variety, sustainable practices, higher yields and lower costs that can increase aggregate surplus across each value chain,” says Teresa Moreira, head of UN Trade and Development’s competition and consumer protection branch. Competition can also help reduce the costs of agricultural inputs like fertilizers and seeds, making food more affordable. Learn more: https://ow.ly/Xa3250T9WcK
