Today let’s talk about job fairs. There was a big one last week here in Dallas. When you go to a job fair, you wanna make sure you’re prepared. Bring a few copies of your résumé, but keep in mind that most recruiters and companies don’t take paper resumes at job fair events. Instead, make sure that you are dressed professionally, but at the same time with comfortable shoes, make sure that you have a fully charged phone to snap QR codes and perhaps some business cards to hand out with your contact information on them. Job fairs are more about networking then they are about actually applying for jobs. #opentowork, #jobsearch, #jobhunt, #jobseeker, #hiring, #recruitment, #jobsearching, #remotework, #ibja, #layoff, #laidoff

Why Do Job Fairs Advertise Job Openings But Not Hire? Explore! Answers: https://lnkd.in/gXBtFNdu #JobSearch #CareerFair #JobHunting So, I just got back from a “Jobs Fair,” and let me tell you—it was a bit of a letdown. 😩 Picture this: they had set up booths for about 15 to 20 companies, and not a single one was actively hiring! Instead, I found them promoting: Employment services 🛠️ Volunteer opportunities 🙌 A few training courses 📚 The only glimmer of hope came from an IT services company, but even there, when I handed over my resume, they barely glanced at it. When I asked if they were hiring, the answer was a flat-out “no.” Talk about frustrating! Honestly, it felt like a colossal waste of my time. It got me thinking about why these pain points happen at job fairs: **Mismatched expectations:** Many attendees come looking for job openings, but the reality is that some companies are just there to network or promote training programs. **Lack of genuine opportunities:** Employers may set up booths without having actual openings, which leads to disappointment for job seekers. **Limited representation:** Some industri...

Unlocking Opportunities: Job Fair Edition Yesterday, I had the great opportunity to chat with some employers in the Dayton area recruiting interns and new graduates for communication-related positions. I was not nervous in the slightest. Instead, I was excited. After three months of throwing my resume at different online applications, I was hungry for the opportunity to talk with recruiters face-to-face. While platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed and Handshake are objectively convenient, one thing I can always share in common with my peers is the frustration over companies who never follow-up with applicants like us. Behind a screen and ATS software, applications are forgotten. At the career fair, I had the chance to be memorable. And hopefully, my conversations grow into lasting connections 🤞. How do you market yourself to potential employers? #collegesenior #communications #jobfair

Couldn't agree more, Akshay G.! What we can show at least - it is possible. A lot of us were/are immigrants. My piece of advice: - do networking, everywhere. Not with one question if someone has a job, but to talk, inspire and be inspired. Do not look for special events only. You will be amazed how Calgarians are willing to help! - thinking outside of the box. If you see that what you are doing now is not helping you achieve the goal, think what you can do differently with your current actions. Do not give up!
I was asked to talk to job seekers a few days ago at a job fair. I probably spoke to 100 people out of 5000. But I will say that: To all the job seekers out there: Your passion and determination are truly inspiring. I know the market can be tough to crack, but remember, each conversation is a step towards your next opportunity. Keep networking, keep learning, and keep pushing forward! Your dedication will pay off. To my fellow industry professionals: Let's extend a warm welcome to these aspiring talents. A kind word, a piece of advice, or even a simple conversation can make a world of difference. Let’s show empathy and encouragement, and help make this journey a little easier for those who are striving to make their to make their mark. Thank you Tech Connect Alberta for this opportunity. And great volunteer team of Sukhman Singh Prachi Dophe Kanya Mishra Rudra Pratap Guen Buison they were amazing. Posting a video to show how challenging it is out there and may be we can be a little more kind with our advice :) #jobseekers #abjobs #techjobs
