At the start of 2024, I didn’t know the first thing about taking sales calls. I was losing deals left and right and couldn’t even get follow-up meetings booked. Yesterday, I closed a $45k/yr contract in a single 30min call. After taking hundreds of sales calls, here’s what I’ve learned👇 — 1. Would you buy a car if a dealer ran up to you and said “it’s the best car, trust me” and sent a contract immediately? No. You have to walk people up the “ladder of yes” and gradually get them to that conclusion. → Are you unhappy with your current mode of transport? Yes. → Are you looking to buy a car? Yes. → We just test drove, did you like the car? Yes. → Does the price make sense? Yes. → Will you sign? Yes. Same thing in B2B. (credit to Nate Smith the legend) 2. Listen. Sales is mostly a game of understanding what clients need. Sell to their pain points, not your greatness. Otherwise, you sound like a glorified call center that starts yapping without giving you a chance to say your name. 3. Never leave without another call scheduled or extremely clear next steps. “I’ll follow up over email” usually means I’m not convinced I need to buy this and I’m probably going to ghost you when you try to email me. 4. Be genuine. Only sell something that actually helps your customers. If your product isn’t the best fit, tell them. Likewise, if your product doesn’t have certain features, be honest about it. Being able to dump on your own product makes you more trustworthy. 5. Be confident. Would you let your Uncle buy your competitor’s inferior product? Then why are you letting the person sitting in front of you? 6. Need compliance?
