Student Shoutouts: Part 1 🎉 Many people have pointed out the social flaws of LinkedIn's algorithm. It's supposed to boost networking and individual achievement, but it seems to have turned into a numbers game. This ultimately put many smaller students and creators under the radar, so I want to start promoting magnificent student progress that NEEDS to be recognized. 🙌 Starting with... 🥁 ⚡"Aya" Aiturgan Talant: - CS major in Community College - Uber SWE Fellow - 5x Hackathoner - orgs: CodePath, BobaTalks ⚡Khadija Saho - CS major in Community College - Aspiring Quant Analyst - FirstGenU Career Institute '24 - orgs: ColorStack, Rewriting the Code I love seeing student projects and milestones! Congratulations, Angela Liu, and Robert Vance on this great writeup! I've really loved watching your expansion into the NYC Tech Ecosystem and am excited to see what's next. What I really appreciate about Hack.Diversity's work is the understanding that many times the skills you need to do the job are not necessarily the skills you need to get the job. If you haven't heard about the program before, and you are a company looking to bring on SWE interns, learn more here: https://lnkd.in/ehr3AQ6u

How I Made $5500 in College ... in just 3 months Day 45 - #100dayschallenge I often receive questions from students like: "Is it really possible to earn that much while studying?" "How can contributing to open-source projects pay off so well?" Let me tell you, it's not only achievable, it's a path I've walked myself! Back in 2014, I joined Google Summer of Code and interned with the Mifos Initiative and Google. That year marked the 10th anniversary of GSoC, and the stipend at that time was $5500. (the good old days 😅) What is GSOC? A global initiative where Google supports contributors developing open-source software. Fast-forward to today, and GSoC is open to anyone new to open-source, not just students! What’s more? 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of GSoC, and for those in India, there's an opportunity to earn a stipend up to $3000. How can you participate? The 2024 edition of GSoC has recently been announced, and you can participate once the application opens next year. Details: https://lnkd.in/g2KAEpQ5 Steps: 1. Select an open-source organization. 2. Choose the project you want to work on, depending on your skill set. 3. Submit your proposal. If you're curious about starting your journey in open-source or want to know more about GSoC, let's start a conversation! 👇 Comment below, and I’ll share everything I know to help you get started on this rewarding path. A special thanks to Edward Cable, Carol Smith and the GSOC & Mifos team who gave me the opportunity. It was under Vishwas Babu mentorship that I could polish my skills and working alongside experienced mentors from around the globe. #GoogleSummerOfCode #coding #opensource #stipend #internship #CodingJourney

🚀 Exciting Journey: My Portfolio Evolution in CSE Throughout B.Tech 🎓 As I near the completion of my Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering, I can't help but reflect on the incredible journey it has been. Throughout these years, I've had the opportunity to delve into various projects and experiences that have shaped my skills and passion for technology. Here's a glimpse into my portfolio evolution: 🔍 Freshman Year: My journey began with foundational courses laying the groundwork for my CSE path. From introductory programming to algorithms and data structures, I embraced the fundamentals with enthusiasm. My early projects focused on basic software development and problem-solving, setting the stage for what was to come. 🛠️ Sophomore Year: Building upon the basics, I started to explore more advanced topics such as databases, operating systems, and networking. This year, I worked on projects that challenged me to apply my knowledge to real-world scenarios. From creating web applications to developing small-scale systems, each project taught me valuable lessons in teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation. 💡 Junior Year: With a solid understanding of core concepts, I delved deeper into specialized areas within CSE. Machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity became focal points of my studies. I engaged in research projects, internships, and hackathons, expanding my skill set and gaining practical experience in cutting-edge technologies. 🚀 Senior Year: As I approach the final stretch of my B.Tech journey, I'm proud to showcase a diverse portfolio that reflects my growth and expertise in CSE. From capstone projects demonstrating my mastery of complex systems to internships with industry leaders, I've honed my abilities and developed a clear vision for my future in technology. 🌟 Looking Ahead: As I prepare to embark on the next chapter of my career, I'm excited to leverage the knowledge and skills I've gained during my B.Tech journey. Whether pursuing further education, joining a dynamic team, or launching my own venture, I'm confident that my portfolio speaks volumes about my dedication, creativity, and passion for computer science and engineering. Freelance content marketer (B2B) | AI, Marketplaces, SaaS | Indian Language Localisation Geek | Artist
This summer internship stipend at the top IT firms went viral recently, and a man commented, "Find A Boy", a jibe saying all are "diversity hires", meaning ✅ women do not code ✅ women do not code better ✅ and women definitely cannot code better than men. I didn't learn about Ada Lovelace until my 20s, but Charles Babbage, the "Father of Computers," was omnipresent in all my textbooks, right from Standard 3, when I was learning to draw circles and squares with Logo. Not a single textbook talked about women's achievements and contributions to STEM. This has to change so we avoid future stupidities by stupid men Dunning Krugering through their existence. Any decent male programmer has worked with other good programmers, and if your opinion is that women are just diversity hires, then sorry, buddy, you are just not good enough like your company of below-average male "coders". #socialmedia #womeninSTEM #microsoft #tech #bias
