Progressive Victory is looking to find additional volunteers for our 2024 House Canvass Project! At the end of 2023, we reached out to both DGG and the PV communities for a first call-to-action for volunteers to lead and support our partnership project, placing teams of volunteers into several key states from May to November to support progressive and democratic political interests. As a result of that search, we recruited eight leaders who have been living and volunteering their time in Ohio supporting political initiatives. These range from ending gerrymandering, registering new voters, and deep-listening canvassing to learn about the key issues local voters care about ahead of the November elections. During this time, these leaders have been actively recruiting their own teams to support these efforts and more starting in May. Now, we are seeking another round of volunteers to advance our mission and expand our project scope as much as we can! Remind me, what’s the project? We will be placing teams of six or more individuals into canvass houses in seven key states (Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Montana, Nevada, Arizona, and Ohio), doing meaningful and active political work. This will include day-to-day canvassing, increasing youth engagement in real world politics, accelerating political partnerships and opportunities with local community leaders, and working on projects that will meaningfully impact the 2024 Election season to help secure local state and national races across the ballot. Who should apply? If you have the ability and interest to spend your time between May and November this year supporting progressive and democratic candidates and initiatives, then that means you! Whether you are an ambitious student that needs a summer internship or someone who just needs a change of pace from the normal day to day and wants to answer the call to adventure, we want you to apply! We are accepting applications through this link: https://lnkd.in/gRzhyzfR. All volunteers will be provided with free food, lodging, and a $500/month stipend to help enable as many of you to come out as possible. The project leaders will be interviewing applicants over the next couple of weeks so please keep an eye out for any invites or interview scheduling! May is coming fast around the corner, so be prepared. FAQ: What will I be doing? You will primarily be canvassing two shifts each day, door-knocking to support progressive interests and candidates, and learning what voters really care about this election cycle. Do I need to be available the entire six month period? No, if you are only available for a portion of the time, please still apply! We will have space for people that will have to either leave early or stay late. Why these states? These states were determined to be among the most important races where your efforts can make a meaningful difference and influence the November elections!

Happy Friday! Weekends are big for political campaigns, particularly for canvassing (or door knocking) to talk to voters about issues that matter to them. Whether it is a candidate running for your local school board, your state legislature, Congress or for President, these individuals will make important and long-lasting policy decisions. We urge you to get engaged! Here is take-away #8 from NC Senator Gale Adcock on how to help candidates win their races. 8. You will meet interesting and fun people! And if you run for office in the future, those folks might volunteer to work on your campaign. Perhaps you worked side by side with a volunteer coordinator who people cannot say “no” to or witnessed the work of the most studious, detail-oriented treasurer. Consider this volunteer work as a job interview for a position that you would like in the next campaign or the chance to meet individuals to fill a position you will need for your future campaign. Whether you intend to run for office or not, working on a campaign can be fun and rewarding! #nursingispolitical #healingpolitics

For all of our folks who are running direct voter contact canvass programs - check out this blog from Alliance for Justice, which shares the latest changes to FEC Guidance on Coordinated Canvassing TL;DR: The FEC determined that door-to-door canvassing costs (including literature, scripts, and distribution) do not qualify as “general public political advertising” and do not rise to the level of coordinated communications or expenses. https://lnkd.in/g8EixFkK

Independent candidates have unique opportunities and challenges in their political campaigns. They might not always have the same connections, monetary resources, or recognition as candidates from well-established parties. But they have a superpower that Democratic and Republican candidates simply don't have. That superpower is the freedom to express yourself as a new and genuine voice, unrestricted by party affiliations. It's the freedom to connect with voters on a more authentic level. Through strategies like door-to-door canvassing, volunteer mobilization, and creating personalized campaign materials, independent candidates can take advantage of their unique superpowers and become a powerful voice for voters. https://lnkd.in/ex-MCQ_w

CRUCIAL ⏰ pro-bono advice for candidates running in 2024 and beyond... from a former investigative news reporter, now a political consultant and PR strategist (yours truly) 😊 : There are 236 seats in the Georgia State Legislature. The average voter can't name their State Senate District #; State House District #; Congressional race district #, etc ❗ So here is the solution 💡: If, for example, you're identifying yourself as a candidate for GA House District ##, SPELL OUT the major counties and cities in your district. Put this on your website, social media profile bios, anywhere and EVERYWHERE. Put a map on your campaign websites showing your district. Make it simple for voters to remember you and who you represent. This will help reporters, voters, and donors alike. It'll also help with SEO metrics. It'll help us all keep candidates straight 🗳 ☑ Don't believe me? Go to a dog park 🐶 (my favorite test) and ask a potential voter to tell you what state senate district, state house district, and Congressional district they are in: the exact numbers, and names of who is representing them. Tell me how many can give you the correct answer within 30 seconds. If they can't do it, you can't rely on voters on the campaign trail knowing who you are either. Please share this 🗣 Help candidates win. I create organizing strategy, organizing education and programs to disrupt white supremacy culture for social justice organizations, unions and nonprofits.
There's more than one reason to run. When I work with new candidates, the first question I always ask is "why are you running?" This part of the conversation is not unique; most campaign consultants want to know if the candidate is all in before they commit. We're also listening for important values messages to convey to voters. What's different is that I listen for the reasons that are not only about winning. Let's face it. Some of our favorite candidates are not going to win. But that's not a reason to drop out. A credible, values-driven campaign can make the favored candidate address new issues. It can send a message of solidarity to voters who feel unrepresented by the prevailing political establishment. That campaign can be a vehicle to bring people together to build power. So we take the #LongView. When we run these campaigns like organizing campaigns instead of only mobilizing, we can capitalize on an opportunity. We build in more opportunities to build relationships and find leaders. Maybe the volunteer orientation turns into a house meeting. Maybe those door knocks become more like deep canvassing. Longer conversations. More relationships. Future power. If all we do is scramble to win every two years, that's all we're ever going to do. And the scramble doesn't always work. If we invest in campaigns as vehicles for organizing, they can serve another purpose, even if that purpose isn't a victory on Election Day. Have you ever taken the long view when you knew the short-term goal was (probably) out of reach? For a monthly drop of stories about campaigns that are about more than winning, subscribe to the Organizing to Win newsletter.
