Alliance for Justice is inviting you to join us on Tuesday, November 12 at 3pm ET for a conversation with Ari Berman, the national voting rights correspondent for Mother Jones and the author of Minority Rule: The Right-Wing Attack on the Will of the People—and the Fight to Resist It. In his book published earlier this year, Berman examines the consequences to American democracy with the alarming rise of minority rule. Through historical analysis, Berman outlines how antidemocratic measures were baked into the U.S. Constitution and how the minority has leveraged these measures to their advantage. Berman explains how the courts have been manipulated to exploit power over the will of the people. We have seen countless examples in recent years of this Supreme Court protecting the power of the minority and favoring special interests over people, including overturning established precedent on health, environment, public safety, and democracy. Berman will discuss the challenges facing American democracy and what can be done to safeguard our fundamental rights. StreamYard webinars do not have automatic captioning, but there are captions on LinkedIn. The event will be recorded. LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/d8h6cTvJ

About us
Alliance for Justice is a national association of over 120 organizations, representing a broad array of groups committed to progressive values and the creation of an equitable, just, and free society. Since 1979, AFJ has been the leader in advocating for a fair and independent justice system, preserving access to the courts, and empowering others to stand up and fight for their causes. The two pillars of Alliance for Justice are our Justice Program, focusing on ensuring our nation’s courts protect our critical constitutional rights and legal protections, and our Bolder Advocacy Program, focusing on building advocacy capacity for nonprofits and the foundations that fund them.

The Alliance for Justice and Abortion Care Network are inviting you to join us on Tuesday, October 22 at 3pm ET for a conversation with Renee Bracey Sherman, reproductive justice activist, founder and executive director of We Testify, and co-author of the newly published book, Liberating Abortion: Claiming Our History, Sharing Our Stories, and Building the Reproductive Future We Deserve. In her new book, co-authored by Regina Mahone, Bracey Sherman examines the history of abortion access and why reproductive justice is essential in today’s society. Both courts and state legislatures have been attempting to limit abortion access for decades, and after the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs in 2022 to overturn Roe v. Wade, restrictive abortion measures have increased at an alarming rate. People of color bear the brunt of abortion bans, and Bracey Sherman uplifts the narratives of people of color throughout her book. The conversation will be moderated by Erin Grant, Co-Executive Director of Abortion Care Network.
