***Correcting these 3 things could improve your LI cybersecurity campaigns overnight*** As a campaign manager, one of the first things I do is look for “leaks” in your campaign settings. Places where your ad dollars are escaping and going to waste. So let’s get into the 3 most common mistakes I see that lead to ad spend being wasted: *Targeting Member Groups without Exclusions* Member Groups are obviously a great way to get in front of your target audience. But guess what — Everyone else going after your target audience views these groups as fish in a barrel. You end up with a lot of people in these groups who are just looking to sell to the real members of the group. Solution: An easy way to eliminate this is to add sales people to the targeting exclusions. *Using Audience Expansion* All platforms love to think that they have the perfect machine learning, but none of them do. They have a very hard time understanding nuance, and what you let these platforms control who they show the ad to, they’ll always skew towards the audience that gets the most clicks. Not all clicks are not good clicks to begin with, and that goes triple when the machine brain thinks that the U.S. Armed Forces are the best audience for your cybersecurity ads because they have a lot of intelligence officers with “Cybersecurity” as a skill. Solution: Turn off Audience Expansion. You want as much control over your targeting as possible. *Not checking your demographic report* Even if you turn audience expansion off, this platform can make some odd decisions. I like to compare it to working with a genie. It’ll find every little thing you didn’t think about with targeting and leverage that to give you a result you didn’t want. Do you want to target senior roles that work at companies in tech? You might find out that all your spend is going to Microsoft, Best Buy, or Amazon Web Services because those have large employee counts and the default setting is “Max Delivery”. There’s a real “Monkey’s Paw” thing going on, but if you’re aware if it you can curb things before they go off the rails. Solution: Check your demo reports. Especially shortly after you launch a campaign. You can save yourself a lot of mistargeting by staying on top of this.
