What is it like working as a dietitian in a remote setting❓ With recruitment and mobilisation in full swing, it isn’t unusual to receive questions like the above from our fellow dietitians. The challenges and triumphs of a remote role are widely acknowledged, but the specific question remains unanswered: what is it like working for PCD as a primary care dietitian in a remote role?... What better way to shed some 💡 on it than by sharing more original insight from our dietitian, Chikaodili Frances Ozojie, RDN MSPH: 🔎 What is your experience working in a remote setting? 'To extend my reach and provide nutritional support to individuals who may not have easy access to in-person appointments, I have embraced telehealth and virtual consultations. Limited physical assessment and occasional technical issues are proponents of the role; however, it has also allowed me to reach a large audience and provide convenient care to patients who have difficulties attending face-to-face appointments.' Triumphs: 👉Fewer distractions 👉Better time management 👉Access to necessary resources 👉Cost savings 👉Reduced environmental impact 👉Improved work-life balance Challenges: ➡️ Difficulties separating work from personal life ➡️ Less social interaction, for example, with the MDT ➡️ Decreased physical activity ➡️ Limitations when conducting nutrition-focused physical assessments Despite these challenges, Frances makes note of her flexible ability to adapt and thrive doing her work remotely. While we are proud advocates of F2F roles, with estate issues and the need for diverse patient care forever prevalent, remote roles are an inevitable alternative to ensuring patient success. As a telehealth therapist, you understand the importance of flexibility and balance in your professional life. Personalized scheduling options can hugely impact your well-being and it’s a game-changer for the future of therapy. Why? Because personalized scheduling allows you to tailor your work hours to fit your life, not the other way around. This flexibility means you can design a schedule that accommodates your personal needs, family commitments, and self-care routines. But the benefits go far beyond mere convenience. Traditional therapy schedules can lead to burnout, especially with back-to-back sessions and minimal breaks. Personalized scheduling lets you allocate time for rest and recharge between sessions, preventing mental fatigue and emotional exhaustion. Balancing work and personal life is crucial for long-term satisfaction and productivity. With personalized scheduling, you can ensure that your professional commitments do not overshadow personal time, allowing you to engage in hobbies, spend time with loved ones, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. When you have control over your schedule, you can work during your most productive hours. This autonomy leads to greater job satisfaction as you’re able to optimize your energy and focus, ultimately providing better care to your clients. Instead of sticking to the traditional 9-5, consider offering sessions during early mornings, evenings, or weekends. This not only suits your rhythm but also accommodates clients with varied schedules. Plan regular breaks throughout your day. Short breaks between sessions can help you decompress, while longer breaks can be used for meals, exercise, or relaxation. Involve your clients in the scheduling process. Offering them a range of time slots can improve attendance rates and reduce last-minute cancellations, making your schedule more predictable and manageable. Leveraging technology can make personalized scheduling seamless. Use scheduling software that integrates with your calendar, sends automated reminders, and allows clients to book and reschedule appointments easily. Such tools reduce administrative burden, leaving you more time to focus on therapy. Look, today - Personalized scheduling is more than a perk; it’s a vital component of professional well-being. As telehealth continues to evolve, adopting flexible scheduling practices can help you sustain a healthy work-life balance, maintain high levels of job satisfaction, and deliver the best possible care to your clients. By prioritizing your well-being through personalized scheduling, you set a positive example for your clients and colleagues. Embrace this approach to create a more fulfilling and sustainable career in telehealth therapy.

Unlocking Mental Wellness: The Power of Telehealth Telehealth has become increasingly popular for mental health care, offering several benefits for both providers and patients. Let’s dive into some of the advantages. Increased Comfort and Convenience: Telehealth allows patients to receive care from the comfort of their own homes. No need to travel to a clinic or office. It’s especially beneficial for individuals who may feel anxious about in-person visits or have mobility issues. Flexibility: Telehealth services provide unmatched flexibility. Patients can schedule appointments that fit their busy lives, making it easier to prioritize mental health care. This flexibility is crucial for maintaining consistent treatment, especially for those with busy schedules or other commitments. Increased Anonymity and Privacy: Telehealth offers a greater level of privacy and anonymity. Patients can discuss sensitive topics without worrying about being seen in a waiting room or interacting face-to-face. Confidentiality is maintained, which is essential for building trust between patients and providers. Continuity of Care: Even during the pandemic, telehealth allowed mental health providers to continue offering care. Patients could maintain their treatment plans without interruption. It’s especially helpful for ongoing therapy or follow-up appointments, ensuring that progress isn’t disrupted. Cost-Effective: Teletherapy is often more affordable than traditional in-person therapy. It eliminates transportation costs and reduces the need for expensive office space. For many people, this cost-effectiveness makes mental health care more accessible. Elimination of Transportation Barriers: Telehealth can eliminate the barrier of needing transportation. Patients in rural or remote areas can access care without long commutes. It also decreases “no-shows,” resulting in greater continuity of treatment. Telehealth for mental health care offers convenience, flexibility, privacy, and cost savings. While it may not be ideal for every patient or situation, its benefits are clear, especially in today’s digital age.

Have a read of this Protection Reporter article on the rapid rise in the number of remote #physiotherapy appointments provided through Help@hand, the health and wellbeing app from Unum. Discussing the benefits of this approach Saumya Barber, our Head of Proposition Development, says: "This allows quicker, easier access to physiotherapy, helping to address #musculoskeletal issues early and reduce the need for prolonged work #absences.” #AbsenceManagement #AddedValueServices #MSK Help@hand from Unum services (the ‘Services’) are provided to Unum Limited (“Unum”) customers by third-party specialist providers chosen by Unum. Unum is not the provider of the Services. The Services are entirely separate from the insurance policy provided by Unum. Access to the Services is facilitated by Unum at no cost to the Unum customer, and Unum may change or withdraw access to the Services at any time. Use of the Services are subject to the terms and conditions of the relevant third-party specialist providers. Services are available to UK residents only. Unum UK has reported a major rise in demand for remote physiotherapy appointments via Help@hand, rising from 4,071 to 8,000 in the last twelve months. 98% of physiotherapy appointments were offered within two days of a policyholder placing a request; back, neck and shoulder issues were the most common reason to book an appointment. These findings align with research conducted by Simplyhealth earlier this year, revealing that 29% of employees in the UK have considered quitting their jobs due to back pain. Of those surveyed (4,000), 42% of employees didn’t have access to physiotherapy support through their workplace despite 41% either experiencing back or muscle pain. A fifth of employees said workplace benefits that offered access to physiotherapy would make them happier (20%) and more productive (17%). The Power of Remote Care in Simplifying Healthcare Navigating the complexity of healthcare can be overwhelming for patients, their caretakers, families, and even providers. Yet, it's the providers of care who bear the crucial responsibility of making healthcare simple and beneficial at the very moment it's needed most. This is where remote care steps in as a game-changer. Remote care leverages technology to bridge the gap between patients and providers, offering timely and effective healthcare solutions right at patients' fingertips. 1. Accessibility: Remote care ensures that patients in remote or underserved areas have access to quality healthcare without the need for travel. This is particularly crucial for individuals with mobility issues or chronic conditions. 2. Convenience: For caretakers and families, remote care means fewer trips to the hospital and more time spent at home, where patients are most comfortable. It allows for regular monitoring and follow-ups without disrupting daily life. 3. Cost-Effectiveness: Remote care reduces the need for in-person visits and hospital stays, significantly cutting down healthcare costs. Studies show that remote patient monitoring can reduce hospital readmission rates by up to 50%. 4. Enhanced Patient Engagement: With remote care, patients are more involved in their healthcare journey. They can track their health metrics, access medical advice, and communicate with their providers in real time, fostering a proactive approach to health management. 5. Data-Driven Decisions: Providers can leverage real-time data and analytics from remote monitoring to make informed decisions. This leads to better treatment outcomes and personalized care plans tailored to each patient's unique needs. Remote care is not just a trend; it's a transformative approach that addresses the immediate needs of patients while empowering providers to deliver high-quality care efficiently. Embracing this technology is a crucial step toward a more accessible, convenient, and effective healthcare system for all. --- Contact sales@cooeyhealth.com

With the rise of remote employees, it is important to understand the inherent risk of a sedentary lifestyle and the need to move throughout the workday to combat unnecessary discomfort, pain, or injury. Sitting for prolonged periods can lead to poor circulation. Once circulation slows down due to sitting, your blood remains in the feet and legs, ultimately reducing blood flow. Many negative side effects can occur without proper movement or exercise to balance out sedentary periods. Solveglobal detects and defuses musculoskeletal disorder (MSK) risk by resolving the cause of MSK issues. Contact us today to see how we can help reduce your risk and provide a solution to help keep your remote workers moving and feeling their best.

Pharmacist | Pharmacy Benefits Management | Clinical Programs l Medication Utilization Management | Substance Use Disorders | Controlled Substances
I was really surprised by the results of this poll. Out of 58 votes, majority of #pharmacists agreed that they can experience #burnout while working from home. The reason I created this poll in the first place was due to the referral requests I’ve been receiving specifically for remote roles. When I asked pharmacists why they wanted to work from home, the answers included that it’s less stressful compared to retail and hospital, allows for walks outside, offers convenience by eliminating driving in traffic (which is true), and provides more time with family, especially small children at home. While every role and its responsibilities is different, many do not see the full picture of what #remotework entails. There may be several reasons for burnout associated with remote work. In my experience, it primarily stems from an extreme focus on productivity, processing large volumes of prescriptions and cases in a fast-paced manner, having short breaks and lunches, mandatory overtime, monotonous, repetitive tasks, and minimal interactions with people - except for answering customer calls on the phone and occasional Zoom/Teams meetings. I strongly agree with comments under the poll that most common reason for remote work burnout is "lack of connection with the team, the workload, and the inability to separate work and home life.” In my 20 years as a pharmacist, I’ve worked in all environments— in-person, hybrid, and remote— and I’ve realized that it’s not the comfort or convenience of remote work that drives my productivity. It’s the meaning, purpose, and fulfillment I find in my work, along with the connection I have with my patients, customers, team, colleagues, and leadership, that motivates me to get up every day, enhances my productivity, and leads to success, regardless of the environment I’m in. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their opinions.
