Access to sufficient, secure, and nutrient-rich food for people in underserved communities is not always available — and climate change is making it worse. Project HOPE has responded in various regions in Afar, Amhara, Oromia, and Tigray to provide health and nutritional support through Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams (MHNTs) to deliver emergency nutritional assistance to people who were unable to access nutritional food.

Professor at IITB, Earth System Scientist, Climate Education, Climate Solutions for Food, water and health
IPCC AR6 looked at the Feasibility and effectiveness assessments of multi-sectoral adaptation for food security and nutrition. Adaptation options considered are climate-resilient food production, sustainable and healthy diets, access to health, nutrition, early warnings to avert adverse effects on nutrition, social protection and risk reduction with insurance. Feasibility dimensions included economic, technological, institutional, social, environmental, and geophysical. Evidence, agreement, effectiveness and enabler relevances were also considered for low, medium and high assessment scores. Women empowerment, education and such were enabler relevances. Malnutrition risks arise out of food availability and increased costs of healthy food with global impacts but higher risks for many regions such as Africa and South/Southeast Asia. Hazards come from climate impacts on crops and fisheries and exposures increased by high populations in climate sensitive regions and markets. Vulnerabilities will be exacerbated by inequalities, poverty, conflict, slow development and ineffective social protection. Adaptation options for malnutrition include nutrition-sensitive adaptation and disaster risk reduction, governance, education for girls, etc. A similar table for mental health lists hazards, exposures, vulnerabilities and adaptation options with high potential for reducing risks. Urban infrastructure, warning systems, post-disaster social support, mental healthcare, climate resilience and mental healthcare training are key. #adaptation #foodsecurity #nutrition #mitigation #resilience #vulnerability #climatechange #decarbonisation #mentalhealth #healthcare #netzero https://lnkd.in/dJmyMKcE

More than a quarter of a billion people are now facing acute levels of hunger, and some are on the brink of starvation. That’s unconscionable. This seventh edition of the Global Report on Food Crises is a stinging indictment of humanity’s failure to make progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 2 to end hunger, and achieve food security and improved nutrition for all.

Prescient intense meticulous rural Canadian family doctor with season one of a climate fiction series that is a ROADMAP for humankind. Need a producer. Bingeworthy stories inspiring change, empowering action.
Absolutely correct. Public health has failed miserably to create and enforce food nutrition policy. It’s a no-brainer. Appalling to see what is available as “food” - plastic containers of food coloring and chemicals - and boxes of empty calories. Equally heartbreaking to appreciate the failure of people to know what is real food and what to do with it. And public policy MUST include food waste management and surplus gathering for sustainability.
I'm pleased to share my first article published in a peer-reviewed journal! This review, just published in Frontiers in Nutrition (open access), finds that plant-based diets are essential to help ease the public health challenges of climate-fueled environmental emergencies. Just do it. Now.

"People often think that malnutrition stems only from insufficient food intake, or hunger. Food diversity is also a major problem, especially in many agricultural, rural areas." AIR's Juan Diego Bonilla studies agricultural development, nutrition, social protection, and education policy as part of AIR's #international division. In the latest #MeetTheExpert, he discusses misconceptions about diet diversity, the promise of #AI for farmers, and how orange-fleshed sweet potatoes are improving maternal and infant health in Tanzania. https://bit.ly/4aYn4Yh 🎨: Rick J.
