ProVeg Incubator’s Post

👋 Here's the update that I promised: I've chosen to pivot my career to work on shifting our food system to be in alignment with common values. 🐣 Most of us (carnivores to vegans) find that our current agricultural system is not serving our values. We adore animals, and don't believe that they should unnecessarily suffer. Despite this, three-quarters of our global animal products continue to come from factory farms (https://lnkd.in/grmti3Xt), subjecting well-above 50 billion animals to cruel conditions every year. Simultaneously, less than 0.5% (~$200 M/year) of charitable dollars go to helping farmed animals. 🌍 I’m working on bringing more funds to this cause, and am honoured to join the incredibly dedicated community that is creating a better food system. 📚 I've been learning at Faunalytics, an impactful organization that empowers animal advocates with original research, a curated research library, and direct research support. As part of my fundraising role, I've had the privilege of immersing myself in their findings and learning from Liz Wheeler, a leader in the movement's fundraising space! ✍ In complement, I've just started as an incubatee within ProVeg Incubator's Kickstarting For Good program. I'll be combining my learnings, from nonprofit consulting and direct nonprofit work, with mentorship from this incredible program in attempts to co-found a nonprofit that brings more funds to the movement. 💖 A major thanks to the community that supported this pivot: Faunalytics, ProVeg Incubator, High Impact Professionals, & Animal Advocacy Careers!

The term “impact investing” can have a different meaning depending on the situation, audience and end goal. At 20Fund we believe in a multifaceted definition where we not only invest in the people and startup but also in elevating the communities in which we all live. I applaud our portfolio companies because they each take time out of their schedules to volunteer or mentor others. The Techno-Philanthropy Ecosystem in the USA showcases a significant concentration of organizations and investors dedicated to fostering social impact through technology. California and New York lead with the highest number of entities and purpose-driven investors, reinforcing their status as innovation hotspots. The nationwide distribution illustrates a commitment to advancing societal causes across diverse areas, with non-profits, community groups, and DeepTech ventures at the forefront. The UK's Techno-Philanthropy sector demonstrates a thriving ecosystem with 1,730 organizations engaging in innovative social good. Among these, 610 are non-profits and 740 are social enterprises, with sectors such as AgeTech and Innovation, Technology, and Research leading in numbers. Impact investors form the backbone of this sector with 211 entities, showcasing a strong inclination towards societal and technological progress. Some of the companies driving forward innovation in this dynamic industrial ecosystem include Millennium Three Consulting, Ab care 3, 500 Startups, 7Ridge, A/O PropTech, Abbots Care Ltd, Abbotsford Care Home, Aberdeen University Artificial Intelligence Society, Able Community Care, Absolute Care Services, AccesserCise, Accu Reference Medical Lab. Earlier this month I had the immense good fortune to participate in the Social Innovation Summit - a gathering of 1,000+ #socialimpact leaders from around the country dishing on, among many things, how to build a more durable, inclusive, vibrant economy (and set of integrated communities within it), for everyone. They were gracious enough to tag me into a panel with the Walton Family Foundation, Blackstone Charitable Foundation, Rotary International, and Art in Motion Creative Arts School where we waxed on about all the things including: What would happen if, instead of relegating people to what they've done or what's been done to them, we lift them up for the greatest strengths they have? Or, what would happen if we understood the circumstances of navigating the trappings of poverty (and all the problem solving, creativity, and strategery that necessitates) as not just one's lived experience, but as one's true and durable #livedexpertise? We at REDF are committed to helping the world see that life's not-so-easy pathways are often rich with skills outsized to that which one can pin on a resume. Put simply, we're on a mission to redefine how our country sees #talent and to demonstrate the value that's created for businesses and communities as a result.
