🌿 Transparency in Plant-Based Food Labelling: A Move Towards Informed Choices 🌿 The dialogue surrounding plant-based foods continues to evolve, with governments now engaging in discussions to enhance transparency in labelling. The Italian government's talks over meaty plant-based food labels signify a pivotal step toward providing consumers with clear and accurate information. This initiative aims to address confusion surrounding plant-based products that mimic traditional meat items, ensuring consumers can make informed choices. By championing transparency and consumer empowerment, we can collectively contribute to a healthier, more transparent future for the food industry. 📢 Let's Discuss: How will increased labelling transparency affect your choices or business? Are you ready to adapt to and support these changes? Lidl Belgium is permanently reducing plant-based prices, mirroring Lidl in Germany's earlier initiative. The company is committed to not only reducing prices of its vegan products to match those of animal-derived options but also aims to double its plant-based food sales by 2030. As part of their goal, 20% of their proteins will be vegan by then. It's great to see the expansion of the #Vemondo line, which includes a variety of dairy-free and meat substitute products, all certified by V-Label. This growth marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and just world. 🌍 Find out more about this initiative in the Plant Based News article. https://lnkd.in/dgjduB7i #plantbased #retail #lidl Lidl Belgium & Luxemburg

The concept of food additives has never been quite so popular… or should I say unpopular. With opinions being so mixed, it's been interesting to see how the food industry has responded to such strong criticism. But, I do believe we have quite a bit of innovation coming to us this year. Natasha Spencer-Joilliffe highlights a few can already expect to see; including new laws surrounding additives, a push for re-education on additives and their safety, and more. #Additives #FoodIndustry #FutureOfHealth #CX #Biotech #Snacking

Oatly has scored a landmark victory in the use of the word "milk". Judges ruled in favour of Oatly using the slogan 'Post Milk Generation' to sell its milk alternative. Dairy UK, argued that milk meant exclusively 'the normal mammary secretion obtained from one or more milkings'. Key to Dairy UK’s arguments has been that Article 78(2) of Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013 of the European Parliament specify how 'milk' can be used on food packaging. Oatly argued that the 'Post Milk Generation' slogan is exempt from the regulations, as it does not describe the product, but the consumer. Justice Richard Smith agreed that “The mark was not being used to define, designate, describe or name any food, foodstuff or food product, as opposed to describing its source.” Chilean food-tech company NotCo recently launched an appeal against a ruling that did not permit the firm to use its ‘Notmilk’ trademark in Chile on the grounds that consumers would be able to distinguish the product as a plant-based beverage despite packaging featuring the word milk. The Spanish seafood sector has pushed for a ban on 'fraudulent' plant-based products, which "attempt to assimilate to fish". France and Australia are to explore stricter labelling regulations, limiting the use of meat-related terms for plant-based products.
