Last week, LeadingAge President and CEO, Katie Smith Sloan, joined the growing number of #longtermcare experts speaking out in opposition to the looming #federalstaffingmandate.
In a detailed letter to President Biden, Sloan reiterated that nursing homes and the federal government share a common goal of improving quality of care in nursing homes, but emphasized that mandating minimum staffing levels alone will not lead to meaningful quality improvements without enough qualified workers to fill open positions. Sloan proposed a variety of solutions to address the issue and suggested an industry roundtable to discuss creative solutions across of variety of LTC stakeholders.
"Residents, patients, providers, regulators, and policymakers all have a part to play in this effort."
