3x Customer Success Leader & Consultant | Top 100 CS Strategist | Cohost - the Daily Standup Podcast | I build and scale customer success teams from $0 to unicorn! | Bringing CS together as an inclusive community
Couldn't have picked a better guest for our first episode of the Daily Standup, launching tomorrow. In this episode, Ornella Jacobs joins us as we hit on a core reason we're launching this thing: to increase accessibility of customer success to a broader audience. This might come as no surprise, but we in customer success might be developing a tendency to get... well, lost in our own sauce. I'm seeing that manifest in two non-ideal ways: 1 - An increasing divide between CS folks and everyday people outside CS. (How many times have you tried to explain customer success and tripped up? Especially when you could have just described it as something simple and relatable like client relations? And how hard was it getting into this field when you didn't have the exact background on the job description?) 2 - An increasing divide between CS thought leadership and the everyday practitioner. (How often do you log into LinkedIn and find bespoke or prescriptive advice that, while it's super valuable, is tailored to niche audiences and use cases?) On the Daily Standup, we want to bridge these gaps by amplifying the voices of everyday CS practitioners and anyone else with a connection to CS. We aim to bring a diversity of thoughts and opinions from all corners both in and out of CS. We're posting daily, bite-sized chunks of CS wisdom from the masses in this fun little micro-pod. Our prompt is simple: "What's on your mind in customer success?" Episodes are just 10-15 mins, so you can listen on a break or binge a few at a time. Got an opinion to share? Join us for an episode and speak your mind! Just be prepared for us to not take ourselves too seriously 😊 Looking forward to this! cc Dillon Young Jean-Pierre Frost
Ornella Jacobs, you're speaking to my heart. And to one of the primary motivators that compelled Rob Zambito, Jean-Pierre Frost, and I to start The Daily Standup. That is, we're alienating entire cohorts of people -- customers, colleagues, and those trying to break into the #customersuccess & #postsales worlds! I am beyond excited for Ornella to be the first guest on this brand new project from Lifetime Value Media.👇

🏈 Why was Dunkin's Super Bowl advert a Slam 'dunk'? 🍩 This year's Superbowl was bigger and better than ever before, as brands went head to head to win the heart and minds of viewers across America! 🇺🇸 It's hard to crown any one advert the winner, but Dunkin Donuts star-studded lineup sure did cause a stir! We asked Lexi, our AI-powered Psychoanalyst what top 3 human motivations the Dunk Donuts ad tapped into. Here's what we found out: 🤗 Belonging - With a cast that reads like a who's who of celeb royalty, the ad cleverly invokes a sense of inclusion. By aligning the brand with cultural icons, Dunkin' invites consumers to be part of an exclusive yet accessible club where everyone's welcome to share a donut or a coffee. It's communal, it’s familiar, it's America's coffee shop. 💪 Empowerment - The high-energy skit with Ben Affleck delivering donuts through a drive-thru and celebrities engaged in creating music tracks, provides a narrative of self-efficacy. Dunkin' suggests that choosing their brand is an empowering act, a choice for the go-getters and the doers — a subtle nod to the empowerment sought by achievers everywhere. 😍 Esteem - Who doesn't want to rub shoulders with the likes of Ben Affleck or Tom Brady? Dunkin' leverages esteem's power by associating its brand with successful personalities. It's not just about the coffee or the donuts; it's about being associated with success, whether that's Hollywood glam or sports excellence. Sipping on Dunkin' becomes synonymous with a winning lifestyle. Dunkin's ad achieved success by weaving these motives seamlessly into its narrative. It's not just advertising; it's understanding what drives the consumer to action! What was your favourite superbowl ad? https://buff.ly/49g2t0H #SuperBowlAds #DunkinDonuts #ConsumerMotivation #MarketingStrategy #BrandEngagement

Driving the 1.5 hours back and forth yesterday for a Philly Ad Club event, I was a little nervous to get so far out of my cozy little safe space. Not just out of my house, but out of my city. With real people. Who I don't know. And have to like... talk to. And despite my ability to chatter incessantly on calls with my team and our clients, talking to strangers is not my jam. (See my blog post on networking.) However, once again, I'm happy I did the hard thing. Being there gave me the chance to hear from the CMO of Athletic Brewing Co., a brand I've been following for a minute now as my love/fascination of the NA sector continues. Andrew Katz shared some great insights from the perspective of a founder-led company, hitting on so many of the tides we swim in at 51. The tightrope walk of long-term and near-term, and the importance of being *genuinely* mission driven. How to look outside your sector for inspo... it was all such music to me ears. I met some lovely people. I explored an adorable little town I'd never seen. And I scribbled almost two pages of notes that I can understand about 50% of reading through today. TL;DR - do hard things. Get out. Meet people. It's good for the soul. #brandstrategist #femalefounder #agencylife #businessstrategy #networkingainteasy

Ever stumbled upon a gem while rewatching old clips of Mad Men? The 'Pass the Heinz' campaign did just that for me. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gXj5NbVT In the episode, Don Draper pitched what seemed like an audacious idea to the clients: market Heinz ketchup without showing ketchup. Instead, minimalist ads featured images of food typically accompanied by ketchup, with the tagline 'Pass the Heinz.' Crazy, right? Why would we not want to mention or show the product that we are selling?! But what blew my mind was discovering that this bold campaign wasn't just a fictional plot or content. It was a real proposal by the agency David Ogilvy & Mather, initially rejected by Heinz in the 1960s. Fast forward to 2017, and the campaign made a comeback, receiving widespread acclaim. As I reflected on the clip, it reminded me of one crucial aspect: 💡Don Draper's Vision In the world of Mad Men, Don Draper's pitch wasn't just about selling ketchup; it aimed for something deeper. By eschewing explicit mentions of the product, he sought to integrate Heinz into everyday language, akin to how 'Maggi' or 'Kleenex' became synonymous with their respective products. This strategic move highlights the profound influence of branding and the potential for ideas to transcend traditional marketing approaches. Moreover, the fact that Heinz eventually embraced and reutilized this concept in 2017 teaches another valuable lesson for brands: 🌟 The Impact of Unconventional Ideas The 'Pass the Heinz' campaign serves as a timeless example of an unconventional idea that resonated deeply. Its revival underscores the importance of revisiting rejected concepts with fresh perspectives, paving the way for impactful branding and advertising. Hope that's insightful for you guys too. Let's start our Monday strong and inspired. 💪 #MadMondays #Marketing #Advertising #Branding #MadMen #Heinz #PassTheHeinz #Innovation #Creativity #Inspiration #BrandStrategy
