South Africa's Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Thembi Simelane, is under scrutiny for allegedly receiving a controversial ZAR 575,600 (USD 32,258) loan linked to the VBS Mutual Bank scandal while serving as mayor of Polokwane Municipality from 2014 to 2021. Amid growing calls for her removal, including from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and political parties like the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Simelane faces accusations of using the loan for personal gain and potential conflicts of interest given her oversight of the National Prosecuting Authority, which is currently prosecuting and investigating the bank's collapse. https://lnkd.in/dB3Bd4sw #SouthAfrica #ConflictOfInterest #COI #Investigations

Ikenga Ugochinyere, the member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has made a strong appeal to the Nigerian Federal Government to urgently address the pressing issues of hunger and hyperinflation that are currently afflicting the nation. He emphasized that these economic challenges are creating a severe strain on ordinary Nigerians and should be a top priority for the government. Ugochinyere's statement came in reaction to the police invitation extended to Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero. The NLC leader has been summoned over allegations including criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime. Ugochinyere condemned the move, asserting that it is a distraction from more pressing national issues such as the escalating insecurity in various parts of the country. The lawmaker criticized the police for channeling their efforts toward targeting labor leaders instead of focusing on combating the worsening insecurity in the country. He highlighted that the charges against Ajaero appear to be without merit and warned that any action taken to detain him could potentially lead to widespread unrest and protests across the nation. Ugochinyere, who also serves as the spokesperson for the opposition coalition lawmakers, drew on his personal experiences with similar situations and called for the withdrawal of the police invitation. He reiterated that addressing the current economic and security challenges should be the primary focus of the government and law enforcement agencies. 🔗 Learn more on Swifteradio.com https://lnkd.in/gt2s72Gu 📺 Stay updated by following our YouTube channel https://lnkd.in/gJUeDAgV #swifteradio #walltowall #diasporaradio #ImmigrantRadio #africansindiaspora #nigeriansindiaspora #DiasporaImmigrant

Why Arab World doesn't execute its fuel blocking experience after about one year slaughtering of Palestinians? During the major Arab-Israeli conflicts in the 20th century, such as the 1967 Six-Day War and the 1973 Yom Kippur War, several Arab nations enacted oil embargoes and fuel blockades as a strategic weapon against Israel and its allies. The most significant example was the 1973 oil crisis, where the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) led by Saudi Arabia imposed an embargo on oil exports to the United States, Canada, Japan, and several Western European countries. This was done in response to the West's support for Israel during the Yom Kippur War. The goals of these Arab oil and fuel blockades were multifaceted: Economic pressure - The aim was to inflict economic damage on Israel and its allies by restricting their access to critical energy supplies. Political leverage - The fuel blockades were intended to compel Western governments to reconsider their pro-Israel foreign policies. Disruption of military operations - Restricting fuel availability was seen as a way to undermine Israel's military capabilities and war efforts. The Arab oil embargo of 1973 in particular had a major global impact, leading to an energy crisis, skyrocketing oil prices, and economic recession in many countries. This demonstrated the substantial geopolitical leverage the Arab states could wield through controlling vital energy resources. However, the long-term effectiveness of these fuel blockades as a strategic weapon was limited. Israel was eventually able to find alternative sources of fuel, and the global backlash against the embargoes also damaged the Arab states' international standing and relationships. Overall, the experience highlighted the importance of energy security and the potential for oil and fuel to be used as political and economic weapons, especially in protracted regional conflicts like the Arab-Israeli dispute.

South Africa v Israel: ICJ grants additional provisional measures per South Africa's request. Israel submitted its first compliance report to the ICJ on Feb. 26. The following week, on March 6, South Africa filed another request for modified provisional measures, this time under Article 76 of the Rules of Court. Under Article 76, the court can modify a previous order if justified by “some change in the situation,” which the court did, despite Israel’s objections. The ICJ’s March 28 order finds that the exponentially deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza constitute a change in the situation and warrant additional measures. The Jan. 26 order required Israel to “take immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address the adverse conditions of life faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.” Israel catalogued some of these measures in its response to South Africa’s request. Yet these have clearly been insufficient.

1. More money doesn't always stop corruption from someone already receiving appreciable money for their work as everyone (Police) - They will still remain corrupt. Best options are education, checks and balances and rewards and punishments (discipline) for exceptional characters. Reason why they still battle drugs in their country. 2. At EMERGENCY levels, a strong string must be pulled before we restrategise. if continuation is possible, then its no emergency. The question is, how bad is it and truth, very alarming currently. 3. A clear and viable option is to shoot to kill especially those armed with guns though a hard decision to take. Often torn between death sentence and life sentence - Falls under positive for positives. Let the parliamentarians decide. Again, viable option, shoot to kill appears more logical for life for life or genocides but often seen inhumane or eithout appropriate steps to fair justice. #Africa #MoneyDoesntCorrectDiscipline #WaterDestruction #Policy #Principles
