🌴 Driving Sustainable Palm Oil Production with Advanced Traceability Solutions 🌍 In today's interconnected world, the demand for sustainably produced #palmoil has never been more critical. The palm oil industry plays a significant role in global agriculture, but it's imperative that we balance this with #environmental responsibility and social equity. This is where #traceability solutions come into play, transforming the way we produce and source palm oil. Why Traceability Matters? 🔍 Transparency and Accountability: It allows us to track the journey of palm oil from plantation to end product. This transparency ensures that all stakeholders, from producers to consumers, can verify the origins and sustainability of the palm oil used. 🌿 Environmental Protection: By identifying and monitoring sustainable practices, traceability helps in preserving biodiversity, protecting forests, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It enables companies to ensure their supply chains are deforestation-free and compliant with environmental standards. 👩🌾 Empowering Producers: Traceability provides smallholder producers with the tools and information needed to adopt sustainable practices. This not only improves their livelihoods but also contributes to the overall sustainability of the industry. 🛒 Consumer Trust: Modern consumers are increasingly conscious of the environmental and ethical impact of their purchases. Traceability systems build trust by providing clear, verifiable information about the sustainability of products. Learn how our end-to-end approach benefits all stakeholders and contributes to a more sustainable palm oil supply chain. Doctor in Sustainable Development Management | Deputy Director for Market Transformation (Indonesia) at RSPO
Sustainable Consumption Starts Here: Driving Change Through Midstream and Downstream Impact Investments On March 15, we had the privilege of engaging in a thought-provoking discussion with Fitrian Ardiansyah, Bangkit Oetomo and Andy Tjia ACA of ADM Capital about the transformative potential of impact investment in the palm oil sector. Our conversation went beyond conventional approaches, as we explored the significance of addressing both production and consumption landscapes. We emphasized the importance of mirroring the jurisdictional approach on the demand side to promote sustainability across the entire supply chain. Establishing a sustainable palm oil city model similar to the one initiated by Chester Zoo in Chester, UK, is viable in Indonesia. One key takeaway was, by channeling resources into downstream and midstream initiatives, we aim to boost the availability and uptake of traceable, sustainable palm oil products in Indonesia, while simultaneously raising awareness about the importance of responsible sourcing. It's encouraging to see how partnership and strategic investment can drive positive change in industries crucial to our planet's well-being. Please share your thoughts and let's continue to work together towards a more sustainable future! https://lnkd.in/g3wFhb4s The UK city taking a stand on palm oil in the fight against deforestation #RSPO #RSPONext20 #SustainablePalmOil #ImpactInvestment Niki Nofari

#Does_Sustainability_has_the_Same_Meaning? The Goverment of Indonesia has gives direction that all palm oil producer is mandatory to have the certicate of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) that should include related good practice of plantation as per attached But I wonder why Eropean Union banned Indonesian Palm Oil from entering the European Union due to the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (#EUDR). Do we have the same understanding of sustainability or it is a kind on non tariff barrier? or ISPO should be aligned with Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (#RSPO) certification #esg #ispo

THE BUSINESS CASE FOR NATURE-FRIENDLY AND ETHICAL PALM OIL PRODUCTION With the sustainable palm oil market projected to reach a value of USD 1.64 billion by 2032 (Source: OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook, Future Market Insights), businesses are recognizing the need for nature-friendly and ethical production to remain competitive. The shift toward sustainable palm oil production is not only essential for environmental conservation but also crucial for capturing market opportunities. At the ASEAN Business & Biodiversity Forum, organized by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, NRES Malaysia, and PETRONAS, during the session on Investing in Nature-friendly and Ethical Production: Experience from the Palm Oil Sector, MSPO emphasized how sustainable practices drive market access and business growth in the palm oil sector. MSPO Leading the Way: Over 80% of Malaysia’s palm oil planted areas are now MSPO-certified, offering third-party assurance that palm oil is sustainably produced and managed. Business and Sustainability Hand in Hand: MSPO certification, mandatory since 2020, supports market access by demonstrating adherence to strict sustainability standards, ensuring Malaysia remains a global leader in responsible palm oil production. Empowering Smallholders and Producers: Through MSPO certification, smallholders and large-scale producers alike are equipped to meet the growing demand for ethical palm oil, supporting both economic and environmental goals. As the demand for sustainable palm oil continues to rise, nature-friendly practices are now a business imperative. MSPO is committed to advancing sustainability and driving positive change in the palm oil industry. CIFOR-ICRAF: The ‘bubble tower paradox’ in commodity sustainability? If everyone is developing their own standard, then there is no need for a standard anymore because everyone is following their own rules. We need fewer standards than that, and in the meantime we also need to cover more of production than that which is currently devoted to sustainability. Jurisdictional Approches offer clear pathways to make this happen.
The current "bubble tower" model of sustainability in commodity production is failing. Companies focus on isolated projects within unsustainable landscapes, leaving wider deforestation and environmental degradation unchecked. But what if there was a better way? The jurisdictional approach (JA) is emerging as a promising strategy for achieving large-scale sustainability in industries like palm oil and agriculture. It shifts the focus from individual projects to entire regions, where governments, businesses, and communities collaborate to implement comprehensive sustainability plans. During the #GLFNairobi conference, CIFOR-ICRAF speakers shared findings from various JA projects in the oil palm and agriculture sectors in Indonesia and beyond, as well as learnings that could help strengthen and scale out existing JA initiatives.
