Patients Trust Pharmacists & Want More Services! That's word based on a new survey by Outcomes®™, which found 86% of consumers open to expanded clinical services at pharmacies. Patients see pharmacists as trusted healthcare partners, exceeding loyalty to PCPs! The data highlights a shift towards pharmacists working at the top of their license. "This survey underscores the pivotal relationship between patients and their local pharmacies and why evidence increasingly points to the need for pharmacists to work at the top of their license to align with the goals of value-based care,” says Jude Dieterman, Chief Executive Officer of Outcomes. Pharmacists could be great team members in value based care. With about 1/4th of patients having a pcp there is a clear opportunity to use pharmacists who are the most accessible hcps to improve care , access , experience and outcomes. However, this is a huge cultural shift and does come with some operational hurdles. I believe health technologies can eventually help address the latter which will further prove the value pharmacists bring in value based care #pharmacists #pharmacistsprovidecare #valuebasedcare #populationhealth #digitalhealth #vbc https://lnkd.in/eDHCBFGJ

The 340B program is a vital tool for helping Covered Entities extend their limited healthcare resources, supporting uninsured and underinsured patients with affordable prescription medications. But are you making the most of it? 1. Review Prescriptions and Capture Rates Many Covered Entities might not fully utilize the 340B program. Regularly compare the total annual prescriptions written by your providers with those captured in your 340B program. This can be achieved by reviewing key reports and collaborating with your 340B Third-Party Administrator (TPA) to ensure capture logic is accurate. Pay close attention to pharmacies in your network and their capture models. Chain pharmacies with an “all claims” model might boost your capture rate but could affect your program’s profitability. Separately review pharmacies using models like “brand only” or “profit only” to assess their value. Regularly check data and contract pharmacy performance to spot new pharmacies to add to your network. You can do it by integrating tech into processes by collaborating with companies like Histroke. 2. Tap into Specialty Pharmacy Specialty medications prescribed by specialists like endocrinologists or rheumatologists are often high-cost but crucial. Ensure that prescriptions from referral providers are captured in your 340B program to unlock significant savings. Document all referrals in the patient’s EMR and follow up to identify specialty pharmacies used. Contract with these pharmacies to include them in your 340B network. 3. Extend Benefits to Uninsured and Underinsured Patients Enhance your 340B program to support uninsured and underinsured patients, reducing hospital readmission rates and alleviating resource strain. Implement a customized sliding scale to provide affordable medications based on federal poverty levels and co-pay amounts. Ensure access to the lowest price prescriptions available and educate your staff, patients, and local pharmacies on optimizing the program. By fully leveraging the 340B program, you not only maximize savings for your Covered Entity but also significantly support your most vulnerable patients. Let's ensure that every dollar stretches further and every patient gets the care they need.
