Game studios are breaking free and forging their path towards independence. Take Saber Interactive and today's news about Relic Entertainment, for example. Could this shift be a game-changer for the industry? Certainly, there are immediate challenges, but let's think long-term. Independence empowers studios to make agile decisions and maintain creative control. Studios have the freedom to take creative risks and explore new ideas without fear of corporate interference. Independence also fosters a stronger sense of community and collaboration within the industry. #play14 is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Luxembourg on March 21-23. 2024 is a special year for #play14, as we are celebrating our 10th anniversary. Indeed, our very first event was hosted 10 years ago on March 14th, 2014.   Ten years later, with events organized in 35 cities in 20 different countries, with hundreds of games played and shared around the world, with close to 2,500 players who joined us, we are proud of what we have accomplished as a community.   To celebrate this milestone, we invite you to join us in Luxembourg, on March 21-23, 2024 for #play14's 10th anniversary. Luxembourg is where it all started, and it's only logical that we celebrate this great moment there.   What is our plan for this special event? As usual, we will have our traditional welcome dinner on March 21st at the Technoport in Esch/Belval. We will play with grown-ups only on Friday, and on Saturday we will welcome your kids if you want to bring them to discover the #play14 magic.   But what else will we do to make this incredible milestone memorable? - 10th Anniversary Party: On Friday evening, we will have a big 10th Anniversary Party. There will be good food, good drinks, there will be cake and of course, many many games. - Building together: During the whole event we will build something together. The idea here is to produce something as a community that we can deliver at the end of the 2.5 days. It will most probably only be the start of something, and we may pass it along to the next event, where people will be free to take over and continue the work. This could continue for as many events as necessary. - A big social experiment: We plan to organize a big social experiment with all of you. We don't want to say too much, but it will be about social organization and leadership. And it's gonna be fun. - Bring your own surprise: We will have plenty of other surprises for you. But you, as a player, can also organize something special during the event to mark your appreciation. Feel free to be creative and surprise us.   We are now 70 days before the event starts. Despite our team having a solid background in mobile gaming and many of our members hailing from mobile studios, we find the mid-tier segment on Steam, which we call the AA segment, the most fitting platform for our ideas. We've moved beyond being an indie team driven solely by passion, yet we're not aiming to become a massive corporation churning out high-budget projects. Mid-sized projects, in terms of budget and development time, offer us the greatest flexibility. We strive to inject something fresh and original into all our projects, and this format suits us well. At the same time, our commitments to partners and investors underscore the seriousness of our intentions and allow us to work on projects we love. The biggest advantage of this segment is that it does not stifle creativity. The work doesn’t turn into mere craft, and the desire to create doesn’t succumb to formalism and bureaucracy. We highly value this and aim to maintain it as our distinctive feature. Undoubtedly, there are millions of other formats and exceptions, and it’s quite possible that Undead Fox will evolve into something truly amazing and unexpected. What are your pillars of success for your gaming studio? Without these pillars, your studio will fail 100% of the time. #1 Pillar (Great Development Team): You need a great development team to make great games. But what makes a team great? A great team is made of creatively problem solvers and technically sound individuals with a collaborative and inclusive culture. But does only a good team guarantee a great game? No. #2 Pillar (Great Management): Without experienced and goal-aligned management, a great development team on its own cannot make a great game, as management will be steering the direction of the ship. But again, do you think good management and a solid development team can make a great game on their own? NO. #3 Pillar (The Actual Game Idea): Without the right idea and the right genre, which the entire development and management team have experience in, the game will fail. Building the right game concept is key; otherwise, you will build the wrong kind of great game which will not sell. So, your game idea is KING. Above are the pillars for our studio. As we are not trying to make existing kinds of game ideas but bringing fresh elements to proven genres, these pillars of success are important to us. MASSIVE congrats to all my people at mod.io on this one! 💙 It’s been a long time coming to hit this milestone, but if you compare the time it took to go from 0 - 200 million downloads and the time it took to go from 500 million to a billion what would you see? A real steep trajectory showing how their success is snowballing. And that snowball is rolling down a mountain; growth is going to continue exploding and jumping exponentially. The lesson here? Put in the work. Take the time to build a solid foundation. Talk about what you have to offer - not not what you may have in the future. Stick to the vision and just fucking execute with relentless focus. And what do you get when you do all that? The best UGC platform for studios of any size, on any platform, using any engine.
