🌎This is what we’re talking about! ❤️Imagine such an event happening across the U.S. in conjunction with local Boys & Girls Clubs of America, YMCA of the USA (National Resource Office), and YWCA USA groups so we could be sure local events are community-led and culturally appropriate! This is the kind of thing, Biden for President, that could activate young voters and volunteers. By helping all people become aware of the impact of positive and adverse childhood experiences — how supporting the positive and working to prevent adverse childhood experiences — ACEs — at all levels, especially the systemic ACEs of racism, poverty, cultural oppression, inequity, the wholesale lack of support for young families (as we see as a matter of course with paid family leave, which is offered in EVERY OTHER industrialized nation) we can build a groundswell. Federal $$$ supporting education and grassroots work in cross-sector communities could make all the difference. A public health campaign to raise awareness of the need to bring every sector of each community into this work to prevent and heal ACEs and to promote positive childhood experiences (PCEs) and true community-supported resilience? It would be revitalizing to tell the truth about generational trauma stories in this nation: genocide, land theft, kidnapping, enslavement — and to let truths of collective historical trauma in each community be a firm foundation of creating compassion, empathy, and concern for the wellbeing of one another. Truth for youth, with kids in each community learning their respective history, and perhaps being able to use the tools created by ACEs Matter — the wonderful “family trees” examining adverse and positive childhood experiences across generations — could be a great way to start. Imagine starting this on Juneteenth and having community events culminating w/celebrations of our original land-holders on Indigenous People’s Day, October 14, 2024. Along the way League of Women Voters and others could help youth register to vote, and perhaps engage youth in helping family members register. This idea was prompted by the great work of Jeff Linkenbach and Carla Ritz at The Montana Institute. Perhaps Prevent Child Abuse America and other organizations mentioned herein, with the help of NAMI and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), National Association for Children of Addiction (NACoA) and CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, would want to help lead such an effort. Corporate and government support working together to activate around truth telling and celebrating youth? Could be a public health engagement campaign that could help prevent isolation and gain support from our forward-thinking Surgeon General, who is definitely concerned about youth suicide and isolation. LISTEN HERE: https://lnkd.in/edHyXFpc A cop, a guitar company, and a public health analyst walk into a bar…and mount an opioid overdose first aid kit to the wall. We have covered the Training and Empowering Musicians to Prevent Overdose, or TEMPO, project before, specifically the effort to get these high tech naloxone kits called ONEboxes into easily accessible locations, where they may be treated no differently than a defibrillator - an essential first aid device for a modern establishment. The program was so immediately impactful it spread to Knoxville, where a life was saved within a week of the ONEbox installation, and more recently to Chattanooga. However, efforts seemed to have stalled in Nashville…until the right combination of partnerships at the city government level took the program to new heights that surprised everyone involved. My first guest this month is Benton McDonough, director of nightlife through the mayor’s office. It’s a newly created position intended to act as a liaison between business, government, and residents, which in a city like Nashville, seems as essential as the music itself. We’re coming out of the era of COVID, after all, when many businesses had gotten used to seeing local government as an enemy, when a lot of trust between the private and public sector has been lost. But this program shows that with the right policy, and more importantly, the right relationships, you can start to rebuild that trust. My second guest is Erin Evans, chair of the public health and safety committee on the Metro Nashville city council. During the course of my interview with Benton and other stakeholders in this program, it became abundantly clear that I needed to have her on this episode as well. After all, this is a situation where the legislative and executive branches of government are working together, and that teamwork is also a perfect illustration of why it is so critical to not overlook local government. For New Year’s Eve, myself and a colleague hosted a virtual event for 100+ Covid Cautious BIPOC folks. Many of us have lost access to public space due to a complete lack of Covid mitigations when COVID is still killing and disabling people. We had 3 virtual dance floors, a spades tournament, a visioning for 2024 workshop, an art gallery, karaoke, short/feature film screenings, a haunted house and more. It went for a full 24 hours and there have been folks hanging in our virtual drop in space since. I say this to say two things: 1. There is a NEED for organizations and groups to continue making virtual events and 2. They can be fun if you care about them and don’t see them as a deficit!!!!! We are hosting an ongoing virtual BIPOC Covid Cautious drop in space AND a virtual event center. As someone who is immunocomprimised and a performer, this has been a vital space for me too! If you have questions, ASK, but do not keep going through this pandemic pretending that people are unimpacted by COVID.

The Rock Hall-inducted band has wiped the European leg of their Royal Flush tour, which was scheduled to kick off June 20 and run through July 12 was scheduled to kick off on June 20 and run through July 12, and include several festival spots. “We regret to inform you that all upcoming Heart performances in Europe are canceled,” reads a statement from the band.
