I am currently working on a resource to help charities make their services more inclusive. I developed it in response to reading some drafts of funding applications for a council fund. Many of the groups applying really struggled to answer the question ‘How will you ensure that your project is inclusive for all?’ . As someone with a disability and with experience of other challenges in life I also wasn’t surprised. I get very frustrated with the line ‘our services are open to all’. I know this is meant with the best intentions but having an open access policy isn’t the same as actively working to create services and projects that are welcoming and accessible to people who are sometimes excluded, mistreated and who feel less welcome in mainstream services. I have found a couple of resources online but I was surprised at the lack of information on this topic. Although I acknowledge there seems to be a lot on making websites accessible! The good news is that with support most applicants were able to think more carefully about inclusion and create a much stronger response to this question in their applications. I am now revising the resource to share on the Richmond CVS website. Ahead of this I wondered what you my amazing network think? Do you have examples of great practice or do you know of any useful resources I can include? Or what are your thoughts? #inclusion #charity Ruils, Sophia Moreau, Inclusion Projects by Taz

Gen Z is poised to represent about 30% of the global workforce by 2030, and they aren’t shy about engaging with the causes they care about, including issues like climate action, racial justice, gender equity, and mental health awareness. As this generation enters the workforce, they’re giving #nonprofits early glimpses of their spending habits, like their average $758 to charitable causes. 📈 Here’s what nonprofits need to get right about #GenZ donors ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wNUoL

Sharing organisation success know-how with leaders of small charities 💪 | Creator of The Boiling Frog 🐸 and 'Tools for Charities' 💡 | PhD research student 📚
I look at some grant application forms around Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and I wonder at times whether they are fit for purpose. Especially when it comes to user-led charities. User-led charities are special, often remarkable places. With a staff and volunteer workforce drawn from the same communities they serve, these organisations have long been pioneers in fostering inclusive environments. Diversity of thought often comes from a mixing of generations, and ideas are born out of a connection of all sorts of individuals affected in some way by the cause supported. However, it's important to recognise that user-led charities may only serve a small, tightly-knit community. In many cases it's a community of people living with disability, or disadvantage, or both. The number of individuals involved might only be in the dozens or hundreds, and they could be based in a location that inherently lacks population diversity. It seems unjust to impose a fixed set of funding criteria on them that may be virtually unattainable. This isn't intended to devalue EDI. Quite the contrary. It's simply a call for realism. To all funding bodies. We need a more nuanced approach to EDI that acknowledges the genuine inclusivity efforts already being made by user-led charities. Please don't burden them with checklists that don't fit their context. #UserLedCharities #EDIChallengeForSmallCharities #GrantApplications

In the heart of #LearningDisabilityWeek grassroots leaders like you are reminded of the untapped potential that lies in the hands of those with learning disabilities. Right now, a nonprofit in County Durham is challenging employers to see beyond limitations & create opportunities for all. This isn't just a stride towards #DiversityandInclusion. This is an opportunity for nonprofits to foster #CommunityEngagement, enhance reputation, and widen their supporter base. So, let's rethink our approach and #IncludeAll. Let's walk away from traditional paradigms and towards possibilities, celebrating every unique contribution. To your #nonprofit that fills gaps, know that you're a hopeful beacon of what's possible. However, the question that lingers may be on how to effectively market your noble cause. Remember, stories sell. Showcase success stories of inclusion, promote inclusivity & the social responsibility values you stand for. You'll attract supporters who resonate with your cause & contribute to its growth. Your work inspires others. #GiveHopeDaily and be the change. #NonprofitMarketing #MarketingSolutions

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding from Mind to support our journey towards becoming a truly anti-racist organisation. The first part of this work involves gaining a greater understanding about the barriers faced by local racialised communities in accessing our mental health services. The funding for this new initiative will allow us to: 👉🏾 Make connections with existing faith and community groups 👉🏾 Recruit experts by experience to run focus groups with members of these community organisations 👉🏾 Hold a workshop from an expert by experience trainer to explore the steps we need to take to make a pledge to become an anti-racist organisation 👉🏾 Finish the project by making a pledge to become an anti-racist organisation with all our staff, volunteers and trustees feeling equipped for the start of this journey. AJ Joseph (pictured), our communities and inclusion manager, will be at the heart of the project. AJ commented: “This funding is an exciting first step on our journey towards becoming an anti-racist organisation. We know that experience of racism can make people more likely to develop mental health problems and that there are health inequalities in terms of access to mental health support for racialised communities. “We want our support to be truly inclusive and open to everyone, so it’s fundamental that we understand barriers for racialised communities to help us adapt what we offer. I feel proud to be at the forefront of this change at West Sussex Mind.” #AntiRacism #AntiRacist #Charity #EndRacism #SocialJustice #Equality #Diversity #Inclusion

Allyship: what do you think when you hear this word? When it’s performative, it’s meaningless, potentially insulting and damaging to the groups of people it is intended to support. Done well and with concrete actions, allyship can be a useful lens through which to begin address inequities. I had the pleasure of running an in-depth session on allyship with a small charity last week. This week, I have seen their draft actions as an organisation resulting from the workshop. Clear, practical actions coupled with accountability: meaningful. I’m running another session with them in the Autumn to check in on how they’re getting on: further accountability and commitment. When organisations take this stuff seriously, they get things done. #Allyship #Action #DEI #EDI #DiversityAndInclusion #Inclusion

Helping people is a fundamental aspect of human compassion and societal progress. It involves offering support, assistance, and care to those in need, whether they are facing physical, emotional, or societal challenges. One of the most impactful ways to help people is by actively listening to their concerns and empathizing with their experiences. By providing a non-judgmental space for individuals to express themselves, you can help alleviate their burdens and foster a sense of validation and understanding. Additionally, offering practical assistance such as lending a helping hand with tasks, providing resources, or connecting individuals with relevant services can significantly improve their situation. Whether it's volunteering at a local shelter, donating to a charitable cause, or participating in community outreach programs, there are countless opportunities to make a positive difference in people's lives. Moreover, advocating for systemic change and addressing root causes of social issues can have long-lasting impacts on communities. By raising awareness, mobilizing resources, and actively participating in advocacy efforts, individuals can contribute to creating a more equitable and inclusive society where everyone has access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive. Ultimately, helping people is not only about addressing immediate needs but also about empowering individuals to overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve their full potential. Through acts of kindness, compassion, and solidarity, we can create a more compassionate and supportive world for all. #help #helpinghands #helpingothers #helpinghand #helpingeachother #support #helpingpeople #helpingpeople

We must acknowledge the stark reality. 📜 Historical discrimination, systemic racism, and persistent socioeconomic disparities have erected formidable barriers to education, training, and career opportunities for minority and low-income individuals.
