Kerrie Leary, Director of Operations at PMX in Melbourne, is a proud member and former Chairperson of enABLE, Publicis Groupe's employee action group dedicated to people with visible and non-visible disabilities. She shares her personal story of starting the group after her son was diagnosed with multiple disabilities.
Upon hearing the news, she worried about his future and became focused on making the workplace more inclusive so that everyone can thrive. With one in five people in Australia and one in four in New Zealand living with a disability, it's something we need to prioritise so that the future is set up for them to succeed.
Hear Kerrie's story and why enABLE is important to Publicis Groupe.

The workplace has been pivotal in my life & career, helping me uncover my strengths, push forward limits, challenge the status quo, and break down barriers.
It’s where I’ve discovered my purpose, developed as a leader, and experienced the true impact of inclusion.
National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), celebrated each October, recognizing the contributions of people with disabilities to the workforce.
I’m Alycia Anderson, an international TEDx speaker and passionate advocate for workplace disability inclusion, accessibility, and equity across all industries.
I have the honor of speaking to organizations globally on these essential topics.
My journey as a wheelchair user since birth, my education on the topics and my corporate leadership experience has been a catalyst in discovering who I am, what my talents are and how I can leverage them in the workplace to advocate for better!
As we celebrate NDEAM this month, how is your organization recognizing the potential of people with disabilities? Are you creating environments where every individual can thrive to bring their full self and every ability to the table too?
If so, how?
Please share in the comments so we can grow in this work together!

This video shows a woman in a wheelchair getting out of the passenger side of a car. The car next to hers is blocking the access aisle.
An access aisle is an area found next to handicapped parking spots, often marked with diagonal lines. These areas should never be blocked, as they are designated areas designed to provide enough space for individuals in wheelchairs or with other mobility devices to safely access their vehicles.
We received approval to post this video with the aim of raising awareness about the creator and the important topics they discuss. Video Credit: @quinndalina/IG

What would YOU do if someone you love was denied a job because of their disability?
(Even if they are fully qualified)
If your organization hires people with disabilities then this post is for you.
People with disabilities get overlooked.
Despite being capable
Despite being adaptable
Despite being committed
Why?
Maybe it’s a lack of accessibility
Maybe it’s the biases of leadership
Maybe it’s the amount of societal barriers
Whatever it is, unemployment in people with disabilities is disproportionately high.
But that’s where NDEAM comes in:
(National Disability Employment Awarness month)
NDEAM is an opportunity to highlight and value workers with disabilities.
NDEAM is a commitment to:
- diverse creativity
- inclusive workplaces
- equitable organization culture
From economic benefits in productivity
To social responsibility of equality and fairness
To just being great leaders in inclusive organizations
NDEAM is your opportunity to hear from disabled talent
As a professional inclusion & change speaker, I have both a visible & invisible disability.
I’ve delivered over 200 keynotes and 80 workshops around the world around:
- disability inclusion & intersectionality
- change management
- resilience
Shameless plug—I’ve also:
- Done a TV show with Dwayne The Rock Johnson
- broken 1 world record and 4 state records
- been featured in People Mag, Men’s Health +
But here’s where you come in:
This October is your chance to bring me into your organization to speak for NDEAM.
• Virtual keynotes & breakouts
• In-person keynotes & workshops
• Fireside chats & training programs
I’m here to help your team be more inclusive and change in the direction you wish to see the world.
If you are interested in having me speak for your organization, just drop me a message!
An inclusive culture is a culture worth creating 🦾

Last month, our Global Ability Inclusion Network (GAIN) held their first remote coffee morning of 2024 to mark Neurodiversity Celebration Week (18-24 March). Through GAIN, we aim to elevate disability inclusion throughout the firm. The network exists to connect our colleagues with disabilities, caregivers to and allies of individuals with disabilities, and to support community-building internally.
These informal sessions are an opportunity to connect, learn more about disability and neurodiversity inclusion, and share lived experiences. Colleagues from across the EMEA region and beyond joined the latest session which discussed inclusive best practices including terminology and language around disability; tips for supporting neurodivergent colleagues; internal resources and external educational recommendations.
Owing to the historic stigma associated with having a disability, disclosing disabilities in a legal environment is rare. Given the statistics, we understand that the population of individuals with disabilities is much larger than what is currently being reported. As Christiane Alpers, partner and EMEA GAIN Co-chair comments: "It is of utmost importance that we all consider disability as an invaluable addition to the full kaleidoscope of perspectives and potential. Sharing lived experiences is so extremely valuable to create an environment where all of us can improve and innovate. In an inclusive society, we will all be better off."
We hope the future sessions of the EMEA GAIN Coffee Morning series continue to help educate, raise awareness of disability inclusion, and act as safe spaces for our colleagues to connect across the region.

⚡ Did you know the only 15-20% of people with neurodiversity get jobs! ⚡ This is why it's important to support role models like Dan Harris FRSA who advocate to change this number. Coinciding with #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek, Dan has been nominated for Positive Role Model Award, you can vote for him in the link on the original post
⚡My Thoughts:
👉 Without constant awareness and advocacy, the UK will be losing a significant contribution from its neurodiverse workforce. This loss can only grow as the number of diagnoses grow. At the moment, only a small 15-20% of neurodivergent people are included in the workforce, this is not good enough, and frankly dangerous. Similar to society, many businesses see neurodiverse people as a liability, that their needs are more than their value-add. This narrative needs to change, and the truth of the neurodivergent talent and potential contributions to the business world need to be explored, not tomorrow but today!
👉 Without people like Dan Harris FRSA who make the daily sacrifice of going out there, raising awareness, and advocating on behalf of this cause, nothing would change. The UK will end up with larger numbers of neurodivergent youth that can not support itself financially, not because it is incapable, but because it is declined the opportunity to work, or expected to work in an unfit environment.
👉 This type of one-size-fits-all business environment not only narrows down the type of positions and industries a neurodivergent individual can do, but also creates a ceiling in the corporate ladder where these individuals can not be promoted and reach their potential. Mostly, because promotions and leadership in today's world are associated with social skills and emotional intelligence of the neurotypical individuals.
👉 It is our duty as a society and workforce to encourage leaders like Dan who are relentlessly contributing to changing the narrative, showcasing what neurodiverse leaders can do through disruptive change to bias and stereotypes. As a woman in business, and through this vote, I show my gratitude to a well-deserved man, hoping one day his advocacy will mean that my autistic twin toddlers will have a good chance of a descent career.

🙏 I am humbled and overwhelmed to have been nominated for the Positive Role Model Award for Disability at the National Diversity Awards.
💗This is particularly impactful for me as it’s an amazing recognition of our growing #neurodiversity movement.
I founded Neurodiversity in Business to #ChangeTheWorld for my non-speaking son and hero #TheJoshieMan, so that it embraces and supports neurodivergent people, and recognises the strengths, skills and abilities that we bring.
🧠 As an autistic ADHD’er, and, most importantly, as a father, I am committed to working with businesses across the world to create more inclusive workplaces, that accept, respect and support people whose brains work differently.
😊 It’d mean a lot if you’d take two minutes to vote. And most importantly, it will bring wider awareness to the need for #NeuroInclusionNow for the neurodivergent employees.

🙏 Thanks for your support.

I help businesses in hospitality, tourism and care achieve increased occupancy and compliance by attracting and retaining loyal customers and employees. Using my experiences of hearing loss and unique audit led approach.
Why it makes business sense to be inclusive of disabled people.
Media coverage on disability often falls into three categories: depicting disabled people as scroungers, invoking pity, or highlighting Paralympic athletes. This limited portrayal fails to acknowledge the diversity and breadth of skills and experiences that disabled individuals bring to employment and leisure activities. Just as non-disabled people, disabled individuals are diverse, which is why no one can be an expert in all areas of accessibility.
I have learned from others and conducted my own research to understand good practices. These skills and expertise gained from personal experiences of hearing loss and professional expertise are used to support businesses in becoming more inclusive.
Currently, many businesses including public and government bodies are breaching legislation and losing money they can ill afford to waste. For example, breaching the Equality Act can result in fines and loss of reputation.
Whereas including disabled people as customers and employees makes good business sense. The disabled community communicates within itself, so businesses that are serious about inclusion will gain further business from customers. According to the Purple £ the UK economy is losing £279 billion a year from the lack of provision for disabled people and their families.
Examples of Breaches in Accessibility- a snapshot from just last week.
1. Lack of British Sign Language (BSL) provision from political parties and TV coverage.
2. Inconsistent availability of captions on TV. For example, when I wanted to watch the triathlon last week, there were no captions available. This omission affects many people including those who are not deaf.
3. Hotels/hospitality breaching compliance - details will be shared in a different post.
Employers are missing out when they exclude disabled people because they are seen as “ less able”. This is such a waste of talent and skills that many disabled people can bring to all sectors. In contrast, when recruitment invest and see beyond the barriers businesses gain. I loved the example Craig Storton shared in a PR session yesterday which showed the value Deaf people can add to businesses.
