As recently highlighted in IEEE Spectrum, scientists from Semiconductor Industry Association & Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) predict c.50% of the world's electricity will be consumed by computing by 2040 (forecast made pre-#AI boom). Researchers at imec are pioneering 'Energy-Efficient Computation' using #helium cryogenic cooling, to help significantly reduce computational energy consumption. IEEE Spectrum's article (Read: tinyurl.com/4z594bu2 written by Anna Herr & Quentin Herr) suggests that computing resources used to train AI models have roughly doubled every six months for over a decade. At this rate, and with the projected growth in computational power, training a single AI model by 2030 could require 100 times more resources than the combined annual output of today's Top 10 #supercomputers. Hey there, reliability enthusiasts! 🛠️ Ever wondered if your machinery could be as error-proof as quantum systems? Well, quantum computing isn’t just about qubits and entanglement; it’s revolutionizing how we approach fault diagnosis in rotating machinery! 🔄 Imagine a world where your machines self-diagnose like a quantum computer tackling complex problems. Sounds like sci-fi, right? But with the latest quantum leaps, we’re closer than ever to making this a reality. 🌐 Quantum computing is all about stability under pressure – something we strive for in machinery reliability. The recent breakthroughs at MIT, where electrons are now fractional in graphene, hint at more robust quantum states. This means more stable, fault-tolerant systems for us! 🎯 And guess what? Quantum tech is not just cool; it’s ice cold! Researchers are using quantum “squeeze” to make clocks even more precise. If that’s not a timely intervention for predictive maintenance, I don’t know what is! ⏱️😉 But let’s not get lost in the quantum realm. The real deal is bringing these concepts down to earth, to our gears and bearings. With quantum-inspired diagnostics, we can detect issues before they become full-blown problems. It’s like having a crystal ball, but for your machinery! 🔮 So, let’s gear up for a future where downtime is just a ghost of industries past. And remember, in the quantum world, things are both broken and fixed until you check – Schrödinger’s machine, anyone? 😄🐱 #QuantumReliability #MachineryMagic #FutureIsNow
