Before the sun sets on #WorldMentalHealthDay, I want to elevate this group of professionals. They are not called mental health professionals. They don’t have degrees in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions. But their professional practice most certainly affects the mental wellness of tens of thousands. They are principals and assistant principals. They are instructional coaches and counselors. Together they create the conditions in schools that nurture mental health by the most literal definition of health. Somehow we have collectively pathologized “mental health” to refer mainly to the absence of mental health and to the presence of conditions that need to be treated. Ideally, our schools - where children spend 13,000 hours of their lives - are places that do not merely prevent students from falling into mental un-health, but instead cultivate joyful, curious, life-affirming cultures where every child and educator is seen, known and thrives. Less than 2 weeks until the start of Year 2 for RETAIN where these leaders will deepen their practice of well-being, self-care, radical empathy, self-awareness, generative thinking and culture crafting so teacher working conditions (and student learning conditions) are inviting and vibrant. #NationalPrincipalsMonth

🧠 Moving Beyond Mental Health Awareness in Schools 🧠 When we talk about mental health in schools, particularly with teachers, the goal isn't just awareness anymore—it's about equipping educators with the skills and confidence to have real conversations about mental health. We've been focusing on mental health awareness since the 1990s, and while it's crucial, we now need to move from awareness to action. It's time to build practical skills so that mental health isn't something we feel we need to always escalate to a specialist, but something we can openly and compassionately talk about with our students and colleagues. With so many young people facing mental health challenges and limited resources available, these conversations are more important than ever. By fostering human connection and normalizing mental health discussions, we can create supportive school environments where everyone thrives. Let’s start building those skills today. #Wellbeing #SchoolMentor

This is one of the many reasons that mental health literacy should be taught in our schools. Increasing awareness and reducing stigma means more people get the support they need early on rather than suffering in silence for years. #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealtheducation #mentalhealthawareness
We had the incredible opportunity to partner with The Achieve Program at Noble and Greenough School to teach Mental Health Literacy to Boston Public School middle school students. Their insights and questions were truly inspiring and a reminder of why this education is so important. 💡 Did you know that 50% of mental illnesses begin by age 14? Early mental health education can be life-changing. By equipping young people - and those who support them - with knowledge and tools, we empower them to navigate life challenges, seek help when needed, and promote positive mental health. #mentalhealtheducation #mentalhealthliteracy #schoolmentalhealth

Are your students struggling with mental health? Whether you have a wellbeing program already in place or not, teen mental health is an ongoing challenge for teachers, school administrators and parents. You are not alone. According to the 2022 Mission Australia youth survey, more than a third of young people reported mental health as their greatest concern. One of the most beneficial things we can do to improve youth mental health is to talk about it. And this my friends? This is the biggest reason why we at Mind Blank do what we do. We know talking about mental health can be scary and intimidating for some. To avoid this, we’ve designed our programs to create an inviting environment where students can have open conversations about tough topics in a friendly and fun manner. Curious to learn more? Check out our website where we share more about why our interactive theatre performances and workshops are changing the way schools address mental health. #MentalHealthAwareness #YoungPeople #Children
