At Sensory Social Playgroups (https://lnkd.in/gnPT-g3m) we have made Transition Maps with children who have a hard time with transitions. Make sure to include the child in the process of making/drawing the map. The map should consist of no more than 3 steps that can be used for all transitions, such as: 1) listen to directions (and draw an ear or a stick figure of the child with big ears), 2) Do what your friends (or family) are doing (draw stick figures of the child following behind others walking) 3) You did it, feel proud! (draw a stick figure of a person with a beaming smile).

We have reached this point where teens are learning and having fun at 6:30pm through a journey of building trust and creating a safe space. When we first opened our doors two years ago, we had very few rules. Our main focus was on establishing trust with the teens. We emphasized that trust is something that is earned, not given. Over the course of two years, we have successfully earned their trust, and they have also earned ours. Now, we have a safe and inclusive space that is led by the teens themselves. Trust has become the foundation of our community, and with trust, everything else falls into place. We invite you to continue following the journey of these teens as they plan their own futures and explore their own passions. By simply showing up and believing in themselves, they are creating a path towards success and fulfillment. Word Definition Bingo with Auntie Bev.

Our lives are based on our hopes and dreams. For children, these are simple. Is it a weekend with a friend, a trip to the ice cream store or a completion of a puzzle or lego structure. As children get older these expand depending on their circumstances and the adults raising them. But the basic underlying desire is to be supported in this hope or dream no matter the age. Sometimes the hopes and dreams need to be scaled down to reasonable outcomes and providing structured steps and achievements. But the key to it all is the modeling of support and kindness provided by the adults in their lives.
