We continue with the introduction of our team “Processes, Methods & Quality”. Volker and Karina give us a first insight into the new Advisory area at VAIVA. Advisory can do quite a lot. For example, as a new pillar for VAIVA. Volker and Karina are playing a key role in this step. Learning from the best, sharing knowledge and exchanging experiences - what works excellently for our own projects can also work for customers. Using our experience in process development to enable others to contribute to Vision Zero in the automotive world is what motivates advisory of processes and methods. But Karina and Volker have also discovered a very personal fascination with process development. The creativity involved in making an idea so tangible that it can be applied as a process and thus provides orientation. Although processes and methods ensure a quality standard that should be sufficient motivation in a world of safety-relevant functions, sometimes it still takes a lot of convincing to convince the other party to use processes. "When it ultimately comes to the safety of life and limb, it is not superfluous to assess and reduce the risk potential with supposedly tedious documentation. It's actually a negative motivation," says Volker, making the necessity tangible. Nobody wants to be involved in an accident because they have relied on their vehicle and it has not kept its promise of safety. This creates a responsibility not only for our process developers, safety managers and quality assurance officers, but also for each individual developer and tester. For Volker, it's like cooking: "A soup tastes particularly good when everyone knows what's in it. But only those who know the recipe can reproduce the quality. That's why we always need quality offensives." Training is immensely important in order to lower the inhibition threshold and demonstrate the benefits of the continuous application of processes. Advisory thrives on mutual exchange, regardless of whether it's about experience reports from customers or colleagues. APM, for example, remains a living model and is constantly being improved, developed and adapted to real-life circumstances. In the end, positive feedback from the customer is not only a reward for our own commitment, but also confirmation of the entire process development at VAIVA.  “The intent of APQP is to proactively assess and mitigate risk factors impacting product launch.” Citations from the brand new 3rd edition just published by AIAG - Automotive Industry Action Group, and compared with the 2nd edition. I like to give some own references and examples. Today I like to share two changes in regard of the Product Quality Planning Cycle, following the PDCA Cycle: 1. Product and Process Validation at the end of the Check phase (so earlier so better with the target of risk mitigation!), and
 2. after each phase (Plan, Do, Check and Act) Review of lessons learned and best practices. I can tell you by experience that the product validation at the end of the Check phase is needed (as early as possible). Both, process and product had to be validated, which means defined by ISO 9001:2105: “Confirmation, through the provision of objective evidence, that the requirements for a specific intended use or application have been fulfilled." Verification of a product or process means, that the design outputs meat the design inputs (requirements); this can be done by document reviews, analysis, measurements or tests. Especially under safety aspects, compare ISO 26262 successful validation of the system is a must-have before any vehicle release. The second change is essential. Because, it’s so important to learn, in each step and reflecting after each step. Learning is one of the prerequisites of continuous improvement and fulfilling customer and other, like mandatory and regulatory, requirements best. Best practices include writing the steps to follow down, in standards, procedures and/or work instructions. Teaching them, and following them. A DAY IN THE LIFE: WENJING ZHU (Continuous Improvement Specialist) What is the most interesting part of your role? I appreciate the challenge of finding creative solutions for different problems. I enjoy brainstorming with my colleagues and using various tools and methods to come up with innovative ideas. For example, we recently explored new ways to generate the parts BOM using our software Experlogix. It was fun and rewarding to see our prototype come to life and then get positive feedback from our internal team and client. Another aspect of my role that I find interesting is working with different people and learning new things every day. I have the opportunity to collaborate with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. This helps me broaden my horizons and gain new insights. I also learn new skills and knowledge from my leader, peers, and online courses. This year, as an example, I completed a few courses on process mapping and Six Sigma. What do you like about Vortex? Vortex gives me the space to grow professionally and personally. I appreciate that the company trusts us to work independently and creatively, while also providing us with training and feedback to enhance our skills and performance.
