Today I have been reflecting on the last decade as I celebrate my 10th anniversary working at Eli Lilly. People ask me all the time why I joined Lilly – to which the honest answer is because as a 21-year-old aspiring lawyer, I thought it would be a great differentiator on my law school application and I needed the internship credits to graduate. But now when people ask why I joined Lilly, I usually respond “the better question to ask me is why I’ve stayed”. Coincidentally, it was also almost 10 years ago to the day that I had my 1st date with my future husband, Johnny. I find the two of these things inextricably linked in why I’ve stayed for so long as we build our life together. Below are just a few ways Lilly has had a profound impact on me: 1 – Ability to Take Risks: I have always been drawn to the entrepreneurial side of things but needed the financial stability of a large company. I have been able to take numerous career risks on 7 product launches and across functions without worrying about my paycheck should a drug not make it to market. 2 – Support for Life Priorities: My bosses have trusted and believed that I can put my most important priorities first and still be a great employee and manager. In my current season of life with a 4 & 2 year old, I'm able to leave work at 4pm every day to spend time with my kids without the expectation that I need to then sign on at night(and I don’t take that lightly). I have been able to take much needed time off whether it be for disability for medical reasons, 2 extended maternity leaves with my girls or even when unforeseen life events required me to focus my full attention on my family. I think a lot of companies put bells and whistles on the benefits they provide, but when it comes down to it, Lilly has leaders who invest in their people and work to create environments where they can thrive which means more than any fancy benefits package can provide. 3 – The People: My dad always told me and my brothers that “you are who you surround yourself with” and I have loved being surrounded by some of the smartest scientists, savviest businesspeople, and incredible leaders every single day. Moreso, I have been surrounded by some amazing moms & dads, husbands & wives, and friends that have given me a support system and people to look up to. It pushes me to grow and be better in so many areas of my life. 4 – The Mission: And last, but certainly not least, in the words of one of my favorite writers Ralph Waldo Emerson, “…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” and working at a place whose mission is to help millions of people through their life changing medicines and to know I’ve played even a tiny part in that has been an absolute privilege that I will never take for granted. This place and its people certainly aren’t perfect, but they have made the last 10 years worth it and I’d choose accepting my first job here over law school all over again.

"Standing on the shoulders of giants" The time has flown past and my 2nd anniversary at Chainalysis has arrived and this led me to thinking about my time at Chainalysis and why I am still very happy working here. During my work, I constantly evaluate the processes and tasks I need to go through to ensure I am delivering on my role. This is a subconscious approach that I have done for my entire working life. Asking myself questions like, “how much effort is this task?”, “can I streamline this approach?”, “what is missing for what I provide to my clients/customers?”. Because of this, I am always trying to identify the gaps and needless processes that can be shorn up or simplified. Sometimes this leads me to discover where an organisation might have gaps in providing the best value for their customers. Since working at Chainalysis, I have noticed that any identified “gaps” have been so cleanly resolved, worked on or already have a solution in place. For example, turning around to ask my colleague the question, “can we do X?” To find that not only do we have an answer to the question, but we built a tool to make it easier for people to answer that question themselves. Working at Chainalysis is easy, there is no chasing for problems to be solved, the people I work with already have the answers and empower me so that now I can answer the question myself. Making my life easier. The people I work with ensure that I am able to deliver the best value to my clients and customers. There are too many people to name here who help facilitate my role. I am so very thankful to all of them. Because of them, I truly understand what it means to stand on the shoulders of giants. You know who you are, you are the giants!

What's your first ever job? And where are you now? It's my 1st year anniversary at Iconic Resourcing . I remember how Kerry sent an in-mail about a job opportunity and that was the first time I engaged with a recruiter (yes she put me forward for a role but I didn't end up getting it!). I did a degree in Zoology and I've always wanted to be like David Attenborough or Steve Irwin 🐊. In my final year, I realised that wasn't exactly the job I wanted. Turns out, I'm all about dressing nice and staying comfortable indoors 💁🏻♂️ Since then I've always on the look out for other business related opportunities. Luckily for me, Kerry reached out again a couple of weeks after I got rejected from the role and asked if I wanted to explore opportunities within Iconic. I had a chat with Hannah and Lauren, and the next thing I knew I got an offer. It's only been a year but I realize that student life is sooo different from employee life! 🙇🏻♂️As a student, the goal was to get the highest grades, there's a clear next steps and structure, and you're surrounded with friends and peers. 💼While at work, the goal is to be efficient, you need to navigate your own career, and you're surrounded with colleagues and there's a hierarchy at the work place. It's not about good vs bad, it's about having clear expectations about entering an education setting vs entering workforce and knowing how to succeed in each. The transition from university to work can be challenging.. so surround yourself with uplifting and positive support people.. and you dont always need to have your life figured out! ✨ What tips have you find helpful during your early careers?

As I inch closer and closer to my 2 year anniversary of working professionally (less than 2 weeks away now!) I wanted to use today’s post to tell you all what inspired me to even share some of my biggest takeaways from my career thus far. For me, in all honesty, I used to be a bit intimidated to post on LinkedIn😅 I felt as if I didn’t have a super huge accomplishment to share— a promotion, a graduation or the like— or if I wasn’t absolutely winning at everything in my life, I didn’t have much to say on this platform. And while I’ve certainly had many wins and career highlights, I’ve also experienced some lower, difficult moments in my career as well. I thought to myself, LinkedIn wasn’t the place to share those kinds of thoughts, so I never did. But I think I had to re-learn, both at work and here using this online platform, when and how to use my voice. If you know me, than you know I’m an outgoing, talkative person, but even I have still found it tough at times knowing how to speak about my career experiences. I recently started reading What Do You Need? by Lauren Wesley Wilson (a fellow St. Louis native I have to add💐). In her book, she aims to help give women of color the tools and insights needed to grow in their careers. This book was one of the things that inspired me to share more about myself and my career on LinkedIn. I love how she clearly and concisely put together so many actionable steps for her readers, many of which were derived from her own lived experience. But her journey wasn’t an easy, carefree stroll in the park and she shared those truths on paper as well. Despite that, she’s been able to write about moments from her career— the great and not as great ones— to then put together career tips and inspire others through her wisdom. And so I said to myself, “It’s ok that every day isn’t ‘perfect’ and that some days aren’t easy, but what are you going to do to make those days better and happen less often?” Just like how I can openly talk about my wins, I can still be honest if I’m having tougher days. Sometimes work is hard! It’s ok to say that out loud. But after doing so, what are you going to do about it? Now, I’m intentionally choosing to be solution oriented so I can continue to have more brighter days. Acknowledgment then action— that’s my plan. In addition that, I decided to share more about my career journey with others. My hope is that others who see my post(s) feel seen and know that they’re not alone🫂 You don’t have to have everything figured out and the “perfect” life to post on here or talk about your experiences with others. You can share your truth no matter what it looks like. And then, when you’re ready, you make the next move by taking the necessary steps to get to where you want to be✨ #earlycareer #careerdevelopment #careerjourney

This January, I marked the 4th anniversary of my career. Although I am a graduate of 2022, I joined the industry in 2020, while I was still a student. (Thanks to Fahad Murtaza Tahir Bashir and Usman K. for the referrals). I have learned many things in these 4 years: some technical skills, some soft skills, some projects, and some connections. Here are some of the lessons: 👉 Keep promises realistic; it's better to promise less and deliver more than expected. 👉 If you can't make it to a meeting, let people know as soon as possible. 👉 Always be clear and communicate more than you think is necessary. It helps avoid misunderstandings. 👉 Build strong relationships. They're key for getting referrals, sealing deals, and forming partnerships.

Don't Miss the conversation of mine with my senior..!! 🤐 When I worked in a small office with 5-7 colleagues, I used to think that corporate professionals were open-minded and had a great life with no discrimination. The main focus was work, and nothing else. "And the time came. It was a pleasure to receive a call from the biggest engineering company and an Indian MNC, none other than L&T. It was like a dream come true, and I am excited to join and grow as far as possible." "But we used to hear the phrase 'You don't always get what you think', right?" "Recently, I had a random conversation with one of my seniors and I asked, 'Don't you think that in the early career phase, we have great enthusiasm and are ready to learn and grow as much as possible?'" He: Yes, but why are you suddenly asking me this? Myself: I am working as a TPC and have spent 2 years of my career in this role. He: Wow! That's great, right? What is the problem? Myself: Why do you think I am discussing this with you? He: I assume you must be proud and feel great working in an MNC company and living a corporate life. Myself: Definitely, working in an MNC gives you a sense of responsibility to work with discipline and provides you with a chance to build your network and learn many things. He: So? Myself: I am working hard, work in different departments and got the appreciation from many CXOs and learning each day and to the extend He: Wow yaar Great! getting this kind of opportunity at your early career stage and with learning is not possible everywhere, you must thanks to the company. Myself: Yes, I am always thankful to the company which is giving me a chance to work and always eager to know more about my skills and gives me a chance to develop myself as individual as well as in team. He: I am still thinking that you are stuck somehwere, do you have something to tell? Myself: Yes, I feel like I am stuck He: How? Myself: In my early stage I have spent 2 years as a TPC and still I don't have the feeling that getting a permanent position, means they must have some plans but? He: You are only 23, you must have to wait? Myself: 23 means? I am doing the same work as others do and I work with other departments as well and I did all my work on time and with perfect accuracy and got appreciation with from leaders? He: Ignored.....!! All corporate employees do not necessarily think alike, and some may discriminate based on age, qualifications, or skills. I learned a great lesson: if you want something, you have to ask for it. Otherwise, no one will give you the path to get the best possible outcome. #corporatelife #politics #officelife #learning #develpment #culture #thinking #solution #life LinkedIn #linkedinforcreators
