Researchers at CERN have discovered that quantum entanglement can persist between top quarks, the heaviest known fundamental particles, and their antimatter partners. Quantum entanglement is a phenomenon where particles remain interconnected, so that the state of one instantly affects the state of the other, regardless of distance. This "spooky action at a distance," as Einstein called it, has now been observed at distances beyond the reach of light-speed communication. The experiment, led by University of Rochester - Office for Global Engagement (OGE) physicist Regina Demina, showed that entanglement persists between unstable top quarks. This groundbreaking discovery opens new possibilities for exploring quantum mechanics at high energies. The implications are vast, extending to fields like cryptography and quantum computing, although top quarks are not practical for building quantum computers due to their need for high-energy colliders like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). 🔬 Researchers from Aalto University #Finland and the Institute of Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences have engineered a great #innovation – the artificial quantum material, demonstrating a novel quantum state known as a higher-order topological quantum magnet. The team built the material atom by atom, using magnetic titanium on a magnesium oxide substrate. By carefully manipulating atomic interactions, they achieved a new state of quantum matter that features robust topological excitations. Quarks and gluons are entangled inside protons. Researchers from the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP), the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Brookhaven National Laboratory, have discovered that quarks and gluons inside protons are entangled. They reached that conclusion after analyzing data from proton-proton collisions at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and from electron-proton collisions at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron's (DESY) H1 experiment. They had modeled how entanglement would have influenced in the collisions, and the predictions matched perfectly with the experimental results.
