Rome wasn't built in a day, But, they were laying bricks every hour. It can take a minimum of 6 months for someone to show their true value. In a society of quick fixes, now more than ever long-term thinking and planning is needed. Before letting someone that is new and different into the clan, ask yourself these questions: - A) Are they / clear about the commercial objective they’re here to achieve? B) Are they / we clear on where we’re ok with them messing up and where we’re not? C) Are they / we clear on the metrics they’re being measured by? - It’s nearly impossible for every hire to fit into the culture you’ve built, but what got you here won't get you there, so your patience will produce evolution down the line.

Remember: 'You need to take time out to work on your business, not in your business.' Heather Matthews' Vistage UK journey is a testament to this principle. Joining Vistage initially felt daunting for Heather, taking her 2 years to finally make the leap. However, over the past 7 years, she has never looked back! Listen to her inspiring story in the video below as she shares how this investment in Little's has proven to be the most important and best decision she has ever made. Multi-Award Winning Best Practice Chair of Leadership Peer Groups @ Vistage | Developing High-Performing Leaders
I'm often asked - what do I love most about what I do? If you know me, you'll know I'm absolutely passionate about my role as a Vistage UK Chair and about my members, who I get to choose and to bring into my Groups. Around 9 years ago I met this incredible lady, who was really focused on the growth of her business. But Heather is a reflector, and thinks things through, and took a wee while to decide to join my Glasgow Group - 2 years!! Since then, she hasn't looked back. Her business has doubled in size, she has a global footprint, she's scooped most of the women's, family business and entrepreneur awards in Scotland, and I've been so grateful to have been on this journey with her. Heather outlines her journey with Vistage UK in this video, and I'm sure you'll agree, she's the embodiment of a wonderful leader, who genuinely brings others along with her. I love working with her and I love having her as a member. Thank you Heather Matthews! https://lnkd.in/eZyBZEsM

In running and in business - ALTITUDE ⛰ can be everything!!! I did a race this weekend at 7500 feet (San Francisco = 52') There are indeed lessons from this weekend's run that we use in DOING BUSINESS across the world. I had hoped to land one day 🛬 and run 🏃♂️ at the same pace and exertion level than I do in SF. However, the environment in Colorado did play a role in my speed and how I felt on the race. Similarly, clients operating in one geography are hoping their business model or product can be easily transferred globally 🌏 . One of the biggest challenges that companies face internationally is the possible legal risks around the world. Sometimes folks, in their rush to expand, develop a business plan without thinking about the framework of laws, regulations, permits, and taxes that will impact their proposed operations. If you think ahead about the risks -- you can effectively manage them. In the case of my run, I understood the challenges of the higher altitude and made sure I was well hydrated and kept my speed down. This led to a super fun, albeit slower, race! #globalbusiness #running #colorado #internationalbusiness Nixon Peabody LLP #lawfirms #internationallaw #crossborder
