Fun Fact : In 2022, I competed in my first bobdybuilding competition, as a Figure competitor (WILD!) This is from someone who spent most of my life until my early 20s as a VERY overweight person. While health and fitness have been a central part of my life for several years now, a bodybuilding competition was not on my agenda (until it was). This video was filmed just a few weeks before the big day. The journey was draining but SO empowering, and a journey I truly enjoyed. There is something special that happens when you push yourself past previous limits to prove to yourself just what you are capable of. I had the privilege of working with my incredible coach, Lesley Chin (who also competed that year), and the support of the rest of my #FamilyinFitness at The Performace Lab. My daughter, Eliza, watched me train for many months and was in the audience at the show. She still talks about my "posing" until today. It may have been my first bodybuilding competition, but it will not be my last (thinking about a go at powerlifting too 🤔). What I leart from my first bodybuilding competition: 1) Lift Heavy Things. 2) Cardio is not fun but it doesn't have to be boring. 3) You can live on chicken breast and asparagus. 4) Do it Anyway. 5) Your body will go where your mind can lead it. 6) Coaches are a must. 7) Say no to things that don't serve you. Don't be afraid of challenging yourself and stepping into uncharted waters. You may just find a better, stronger version of yourself. #FitMom #LabFam #ThisMamaLifts #CaymanIslands

One of the sports I've taken up since March is Pickleball. I've been playing in clinics in Montclair, NJ and have moved my level from a beginner in March to now close to a 4.0+ advanced player now in August. One of the shots we have to master to advance is called "The Reset". A reset is a defensive shot used to try and disarm, slow-down and minimize an attack underway from your opponents. To play smart, we need to slow-down and reset the ball when you find yourself in, what I call, one of the ‘Three O’s:’ 1. OFF BALANCE 2. OUT-STRETCHED 3. OFF COURT As I thought about this and related it to our lives, we need to create a "Reset" in our lives every time we are off balance or in an off mood. When irrational thoughts are starting to flood the mind, you can use a method to "Reset": Use the SOS Method: 1. STOP: When wrong thoughts are coming in, just say "STOP THIS" 2. OBSERVE: Take a step back and observe how these thoughts are making you unhappy 3. SHIFT: Shift away from those thoughts to something positive or something you are grateful for in your life. #mindfulness #selflove #selfcare #meditation #wellness #pickleball

About a year ago, a friend/mentor suggested to me that I try pickleball. Of course, I didn't want to. For anything new that was out of my comfort zone, I had to be dragged kicking and screaming (not really, but you understand). My friend lent me a paddle, and we set off for my first foray into what would become a healthy obsession (probably borderline unhealthy, lol). We got to the gym about 15 minutes early, and he taught me the rules and how to keep score. That was it. I learned the rest as I went from really nice, welcoming, fun people. Ever since, I have been playing pickleball as much as possible (weekly, when I am not travelling). If you haven't given #pickleball a shot yet, you should. It's great for all ages (especially seniors, who love it), fun, social, and growing in popularity. Oh, and because of all those reasons and more, it's actually quite healthy for both the body and mind. And since it's fun to play, you don't have to psyche yourself up to go (like the gym or running). Check out these five health benefits of playing pickleball (and then grab a paddle and get out there! #pickleballhealth #pickleballbenefits #pickleballfun #social #fun #fitness #healthbenefits #pickleballusa #pickleballcanada #worldpickleball

In the greater Los Angeles area? I'm hosting one more park workout this week! You should join us!! Message or text me, and you can get all the details at: https://lnkd.in/g43gNZ5p As is typical for group workouts, I had 47 "I'll try to come!" RSVPs so we had... 4 of us show up! LOLOLOLOL But guess what? We had a ton of fun and got a great workout! The game we played was Rock Paper Scissors! Here's how we turned it into a workout game: - Participants were divided into two teams and before each exercise, each team sent a representative to compete in Rock Paper Scissors. More on that in a second... - Next, we all did the same exercise for the same interval, and everyone counted how many reps they did in the interval. For example, if the interval was 45 seconds and the exercise was squats, each person did as many as they could and kept track of their rep count. - To score, you each earned 1 point for every rep you did for your team! - BUT, if your team won the Rock Paper Scissors, everyone on your team got to take 2 points per rep! Our teams today were Rob Endres and Ann Whitford Paul vs Colleen Paeff and me! And the winners were.... Rob and Ann! By a LOT! Check out the videos of some of today's workout!! And if you want to join us on Thursday, message me!! I promise you'll fit in and get lots of laughs! #workoutsinlosangeles #losangeles #outdoorfitness #getfitdone #workoutgames

Jump, Duck, and Run: Playful Workouts for Energetic Kids Physical activity is crucial for children's development, offering a myriad of benefits that extend well beyond the physical realm. Engaging in regular exercise helps in building strong bones and muscles, maintaining a healthy weight, and improving sleep. Additionally, it plays a significant role in cognitive development and emotional well-being, enhancing focus, reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, and boosting self-esteem. When parents join in, the benefits are magnified. Participating in physical activities together not only strengthens the parent-child bond but also sets a positive example, showing kids that staying active is a valuable and enjoyable part of life. This shared experience can lead to a lifelong habit of physical wellness, encourage teamwork, and improve communication skills. Furthermore, it provides a fun, cost-effective way to spend quality time together, creating lasting memories while instilling healthy habits. #homeschool #homeschooling #educational #kidsactivities #physicaleducation https://lnkd.in/deRBN47R
