Maree Adshead, CEO of Eco-Markets Australia, discussed the immense potential of the Great Barrier Reef as a natural capital investment opportunity at the recent Our Sustainable Future forum. She highlighted the critical role of market-based solutions, like the Reef Credit Scheme, in protecting this valuable asset. 🎙️ Meeting these targets has been estimated to cost $8.2 billion to achieve and will require more than grant funding or regulatory intervention alone. There is a significant role for market development around sustainable opportunities which will contribute to protecting our natural capital. Maree emphasised the need for robust methodologies and increased landholder engagement to generate an adequate supply of reef credits. Government investment in these credits would boost market confidence and help bridge the significant financing gap. 💡 Read more about Maree Adshead's insights and the other speakers' perspectives in the full Our Sustainable Future report: https://bit.ly/3xjRXr2 #NaturalCapital #SustainableInvesting #GreatBarrierReef #ReefCredits #auspol #queensland #qldpol #publicpolicy

𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 In a bid to address the pressing challenges of global water security, a new partnership on climate resilient watershed investments has been launched at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali. The Nature Conservancy, Nature for Water, and the Dutch NWB Fonds, WaterWorX and Blue Deal have teamed up to harness nature-based solutions to combat the degradation of drinking water sources. Nearly half the drinking water sources globally are significantly degraded, threatening the quality and quantity of water for communities, cities, farmers and businesses. The partnership aims to establish a ‘climate-resilient watershed investment programme for water security’ through a dedicated financing facility that develops, finances and sustains the nature-based solutions investments of water utilities and water authorities. The Queensland Government is funding over $13 million to continue the Queensland Reef Water Quality Program investment in place-based approaches across the Great Barrier Reef catchment. 💪🐢 The Reef Place-Based Integrated Projects initiative, which will see an investment of up to $5.5 million, seeks to help improve Reef water quality and add value to local economies and communities. Now in its second stage, the initiative is inviting proposals for projects in the Reef catchment that respond to local (place-based) needs, issues and opportunities and support Reef water quality, land management and environmental outcomes. 👉 Support Reef water quality improvement. 👉 Leverage and integrate investment, in-kind contribution, existing resources, or initiatives. 👉 Add value across a catchment and engage communities and land managers through a range of cross-sector settings including agricultural or catchment management, landscape remediation, circular economy or natural capital opportunities, for example. 👉 Deliver additional co-benefits such as local upskilling or job opportunities. 👉 Provide enduring legacy outcomes. For more information, including details on the eligibility criteria, please visit https://lnkd.in/gNfk8w6r 📱 Both stages of the Reef Place-Based Integrated Projects are funded through the Queensland Reef Water Quality Program to help improve land condition and water quality flowing to the Reef. This tender builds on the success of previous place-based initiatives across the Reef. 🍃 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gfXbRy4Y #QueenslandEnvironment

💧🔷 Skat Foundation is proud to be a part of Blue Community Switzerland As an international network, Blue Communities recognize water as a fundamental #HumanRight and a #PublicGood. Their mission is to ensure that water supply and management remain in public hands, and to promote the consumption of #TapWater instead of bottled water. At Skat Foundation, we believe in the power of #KnowledgeExchange and long-term partnerships to promote sustainable water management. Through the Blue Community network, we join hands with partners both locally and internationally to protect and sustain this precious resource. Why does it matter? 💧 Access to safe water is a human right. Currently, several billion people globally do not have this right granted. Blue Communities help promote this human right at the international and local levels. 💧Drinking tap water is an environmentally responsible choice. Providing tap water consumes 1,000 times less energy compared to bottled mineral water. By encouraging the use of local, public water supplies, Blue Communities help reduce environmental impact while promoting responsible water use. Join us in supporting this movement - because water is a human right 🌊 #WaterSector #WaterManagement #Network #Membership #DevelopmentCooperation #InternationalCooperation #NGO #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs

The transition to a sustainable future for our rivers can be accelerated by embracing the value of our ecosystems. This August the IRF will be facilitating an Environmental Markets Forum on behalf of Brisbane City Council. Bringing together 30 thought leaders from government, corporate, and community sectors, this forum aims to develop and share innovative mechanisms to attract investment and fund waterway rehabilitation on a regional scale. Event outcomes will help drive a lasting legacy for our waterways and lead into special session topics on Environmental Markets at the upcoming 26th International River Symposium. In our transformative strategy, through the Resilient Rivers Blueprint and Hub, the IRF recognises the critical role of Environmental Markets and other innovative financial mechanisms in accelerating action towards resilient rivers for future generations. #EnvironmentalMarkets #InnovativeFinance #Brisbane #BrisbaneRiver #Brisbane2032 #IRS
