At St. Luke's, leading the way is not just a concept, but also the cornerstone of our rich and storied history. St. Luke's Chief People Officer, Nate Bigler, was a keynote presenter at a recent meeting of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). The MGMA represents over 15,000 group medical practices that range from smaller, private practices to some of the largest in the country with over 350,000 physicians. The theme was "Leadership in Times of Change." This concept is universal, especially post-pandemic. Healthcare, like most businesses, is in the midst of turbulent times with the cost of supplies and labor increasing significantly. Nate's keynote presentation covered what leaders need to do to continue to improve the culture in their sphere of influence; a culture that will win through this season of change. #StLukesSTL #HealthcareLeadership #MGMAconference #HealthcareCulture #PostPandemicLeadership #LeadershipInChange #HealthcareTrends #HealthcareChallenges

"Candid, succinct, and timely feedback is golden. Often leaders shy away from providing necessary information to colleagues or team members. Messages often become diluted and or jumbled while having difficult conversations. While this can be uncomfortable, carrying needed messages is vital to leading," says Lisa Carter, Ballad Health's southern region president. We appreciate Beckers Healthcare for sharing and including one of our fantastic leaders as part of their "90 execs share their most important career lessons" article. With the health of our communities in mind, health care should not be seen as a zero-sum game. Health is universal yet complex and there is plenty of room in the health industry to innovate together. In fact, I believe collaboration between medical systems and retailers is important to fully address the most pressing health challenges that we continue facing today. This recent Harvard Business Review article highlights how we can partner together to offer more comprehensive care, deliver care outside our four walls, and leverage data to improve clinical care: Retailers and Health Systems Can Improve Care Together (hbr.org) We’re doing this already. At CVS MinuteClinic, we leverage Epic, one of the most widely used EHR systems in the U.S., to communicate with patients’ health care providers. We also have several innovative programs where we work with providers and health systems to help close gaps in care. I look forward to continuing to work together to improve health outcomes in the communities we serve.
