I wrote for BusinessGreen on what I learned campaigning for Shelter and how it can help climate advocates. In essence, don't talk about the number of homes you need to build / the amount of cash you will or won't invest. Talk about - show - what those homes or that money will mean in peoples lives and communities. And often your best advocates are community and business leaders - so let's help them be more confident climate storytellers. https://lnkd.in/enjRtcSc

UK voters care about climate and nature. But only a quarter trust environmental campaigners. This election we need a climate story that everyone can get behind. ✅ One that’s all about getting on with the job with practical, positive, popular leadership and policy ❌ Not one that feels alienating and impossible. 💡 New guidance on how to get the election climate story right. It’s a pleasure to have worked on this with the Climate Outreach crew. https://lnkd.in/dY2Kvjej

🤔 What do people in Scotland think and feel about climate change and climate policy? And how do we involve and engage everyone when we talk about it? 📺 We were joined by a fab group to delve into our #BritainTalksClimate #Scotland insights yesterday from our new research with More in Common. In case you missed it, or just want to see it again, you can watch back here: https://lnkd.in/eRuV5mzp "I think it's about working out who it is you're trying to communicate with and using the research to really make sure you're tailoring your messages and communicating in a way that resonates well with them." - Becky Kenton-Lake from Stop Climate Chaos Scotland. "Make sure that the story is one that feels like it is talking to Scotland right now, and what people care about right now, and that [...] this net zero thing is felt to be real and felt to be of benefit to people." - David Powell "Just transition doesn't mean a lot to people when it's not tied to jobs or bills or regeneration or any of those kind of things. So the way to kind of internalize some of this research is actually both from a policy perspective and communications perspective." - Conleth Burns from More in Common 👀 For more insights watch the webinar and check out the toolkit: https://lnkd.in/esMQwuy 📅 Don’t forget to sign up to our other Britain Talks Climate webinars: https://lnkd.in/eJfwNfP8 Thanks to our amazing speakers Emma James, Becky Kenton-Lake, Rachael Orr, Conleth Burns and David Powell! We also want to thank the European Climate Foundation, who funded this research. And to our partners in Scotland Stop Climate Chaos Scotland & Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Outside of Real Estate, and CrossFit, I also help a local non-profit within Beverly called 'Green Beverly'. Green Beverly is focused on helping the local community, including both residents and businesses, to live more sustainably by providing services, running community programs and facilitating knowledge sharing. Personally, I am involved on many projects, but most notably is a contract with the City of Beverly to help home owners reduce the carbon footprint of their home, while taking advantage of the Mass Save Program and Incentives. There are many federal and state funded programs to help home owners and landlords; from FREE home energy audits, to deeply discounted (or free) insulation work, heating/cooling rebates and interest free financing. There are even more incentives for low-income properties, as well as tax incentives and tax credits to take advantage of. If you want to make your home more energy efficient, or want to make some #greenupdates, feel free to reach out! Check out the Green Beverly website for overall education on what GB does with our city, including specific projects and how to get involved. #GoGreen https://lnkd.in/e2faUFRv

"The establishment #press has failed to cover #energy corporations’ contributions to the #climatecrisis, including how #fossilfuel money skews university climate and energy #research, and how fossil fuel investors have sued national governments to block climate #regulations... in 32 of the 40 forest-offset projects investigated, the claims concerning forest protection and emission reductions were overstated by an average of 400 percent...utilities including #PGandE and #CommonwealthEdison were well aware of the threats posed by climate change but adopted a strategy of “climate denial, doubt, and delay” to continue investing in polluting infrastructure for “several decades longer than scientists have advised is safe...entire tribal towns in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest are being forced to relocate due to climate change...evidence of health risks for people who live nearby oil and gas extraction sites...corporate media has also largely ignored efforts by #CleanCreatives, a movement of workers within the most prominent advertising and #PR agencies, to end their employers’ ties to fossil fuel companies." https://lnkd.in/ecSjWPDY

"Most of all we must create and tell the stories and be the storytellers of a fast and fair transition to a low carbon world." This. 1000 times this! (If you actually want a thousand times this, check out Carbon Copy, where roughly this number of community groups, councils, businesses, charities, public sector organisations and education institutions have so far shared their stories.) #storytelling #climateaction #justtransition
The Labour Party's expected decision to drop the £28bn green growth pledge is a disappointment. 👥 We've asked thousands of people across Britain - most want FASTER progress on meeting our climate targets and STRONGER leadership from government and the opposition. We now need to focus on moving beyond numbers to real commitment. Want to know how we can get to some real progress? Grass root activism, collective action taken by ordinary people can bring everlasting change…. From banning fracking in 2014 to the -electric building act. New York’s Climate Act is a vanguard for Greenhouse gas emissions mandates and other cities can learn a thing or two. Recently I visited the city to watch the epic T20 World Cup played between India and Pakistan. It was a typical summer day, hot and humid. As I hopped on the stationary bus, I noticed something very different: the ignition was turned off, and there was no air conditioning. And the lights were turned off too. After sitting and waiting patiently on the bus for ten minutes, I approached the bus driver to turn on the air conditioner. He responded “Oh no, we cannot idle the bus for more than 3 minutes….. the NYC idling law prohibits it……… and there is a significant penalty for breaking the law” New York City’s Groundbreaking Climate Laws — And What Comes Next (foodandwaterwatch.org) #climateaction #climatechange #grassrootactivism #sustainability

A very interesting article in #TheConversation about bushfire emissions. "...research sugests we cannot assume forests will recover quickly after bushfires. As bushfires become more frequent and intense, they are more likely to irrevocably change landscapes. Bushfires are also more likely to occur in areas that are not adapted to fire and recover poorly – such as Tasmania’s World Heritage-listed northwest." This has major implications for Australia’s emissions accounting. Based on this article, we are very sophisticated in our accounting for bushfires, but we need to do more. #foodforthought In a dangerously warming world, we must confront the grim reality of Australia’s bushfire emissions (https://lnkd.in/gEdCmJCM)

9moWell said Rachel. The tone of many housing decarbonisation conversations is one of necessary sacrifice and (whilst not explicitly said) that life will be a little worse. Not true. We need to change the conversation to one that highlights the benefits to people and the communities they live in.
