The cryoICE cryoablation probes are built off our core strengths in cryoablation technology, leveraging important features like thermal capacity to remove heat and active defrost. Why that’s important: Active defrost allows the probe to be safely and quickly detached while maintaining the tissue’s frozen state. “Slow thawing of the frozen tissue is a prime destructive factor and is a more important mechanism of cell death in cryosurgery than is rapid cooling. The rate of thawing should be as slow as practical, and is best done by allowing the tissues to thaw with no assistance by heating. New publication from Neelan Marianayagam MD, PhD, MBA, FEBNS et al. comparing dosimetry of SRS platforms in the realm of treating very small targets for functional radiosurgery - specifically noninvasive treatment of essential tremor in this case. Per the authors: "When lesioning functional brain targets with SRS, the more concentrated the radiation (ie. the sharper the knife), theoretically the safer the procedure.” While, albeit, this is a planning/simulation study, check out the improvement of healthy brain sparing expected by the ZAP-X 3mm collimator.
