To honor #WorldChildrensDay, we asked young people what they would want leaders to consider to create a better, safer world for children. Sneha, a National Youth Council Member at UNICEF USA, asks CEOs and leaders to acknowledge the impacts of child poverty on education, health and development. She asks them to invest more in children and to give them opportunities to raise their voices — opportunities they deserve. #WCD2023

We are heartened to hear the new Government's commitment to halve Violence Against and Women and Girls in the King's Speech yesterday. Our CEO Cherryl Henry-Leach responds to Labour's statement with a call for a whole system approach to effectively create positive change, including: - A clear delivery plan that keeps the safety of victims and survivors central to its development. - Investment in the sector so that vital support provided by specialist organisations is sustained. - Access to Justice will not re-traumatise victim-survivors and they experience trauma-informed support at every stage from disclosure - Improvements to the NHS include a Coordinated Community Response to health and domestic abuse. - Expectation that all education settings respond appropriately to domestic abuse and actively promote and teach healthy relationships. - Reduce homelessness, recognising domestic abuse as a lead cause, whilst protecting survivors and guaranteeing victims' rights. When approaching an Indigenous community expect that you’ll need to properly inform, consult, involve, collaborate and empower each other to achieve success. Indigenous peoples are often asked to provide their time and are contacted by multiple institutions. Keep in mind you’ll need to: ✔Build a program or initiative with the support of the community before you begin planning. Avoid bringing a developed plan to a community or nation unless they have asked for it. ✔ Have clear intentions. ✔ Plan time for visiting and relationship-building. ✔ Understand that many First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities may have difficulty trusting non-Indigenous partners or organizations due to both historical and ongoing effects of colonial trauma. ✔ Consider reciprocity and be prepared to explain how your project or initiative benefits the community. ✔ Expect to answer questions about budget availability. #UWaterlooCoop #Coop #EDIR

🌍 Today, May 25th, we observe the International Missing Children's Day. 🌍 This day serves as a poignant reminder of the countless #children who disappear every year, leaving families and communities in anguish and uncertainty. Each missing child is a call to action for us all to create a safer and more just world. 🔍 SDG 16 - Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions - aims to end abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and all forms of violence against children. By working towards this goal, we can ensure that every child has the right to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment. Protecting our children means building a society where they can thrive without fear. It means stronger laws, better enforcement, and comprehensive support systems for families. It means raising awareness and fostering a global commitment to justice and safety. 💙 Join us in spreading awareness and supporting this vital cause. Every voice matters in the fight to safeguard our children’s future. Let’s stand together to ensure that no child goes missing, and no family suffers in silence. Together, we can make a difference. 🌟 #InternationalMissingChildrensDay #SDG16 #SDSN #Peace #Justice #ChildProtection #SafeWorld #EndViolence #HopeForChildren UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network – Youth SDSN Youth Solutions Program UN SDSN Youth Greece SDSN Greece SDSN Europe REDS / SDSN Spain UNSDSN Turkey UN SDSN Youth Black Sea
