What are 3 things that make a team effective? Having mutual respect, common and aligned goals, open communication, and patience can all help make for a successful team

Is your team members' passion a superpower or a distraction? We have all worked with people who are always full of drama and are a huge distraction. We have also worked with highly passionate people who help drive the entire team forward. 💪 𝙄𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙚 𝙖 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙤. We need more people on our teams who give a shit and want to push everyone else to succeed. I want Travis Kelce on my team. We need people who 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙞𝙣, not just want to have a job. Sometimes that passion will overflow. I can deal with the occasional overflow while using it as a superpower the rest of the time.

Creating a team can be hard at times. So many different personalities. Get to know each person individually and treat them differently because they are all not the same. Create a trusting and fun environment because work can be stressful at times. Be understanding but open about your expectations. Take the time to walk in your team shoes for a day and they will thank you and respect you for it. They will know that you are there with them and that you understand what they do on a daily basis. Having a great team is a reflection of you because when they shine you shine too.

If your manager tells you that you are valuable to the team, make sure that the value they are referring to includes you as a person as well. Because it doesn't mean much that they value your work if they don't value the person doing it.

The key to success is definitely teamwork. And it starts with you creating that team.

I grew my team from 0 to 70 people. If I was to do it all again… I would to these 3 things differently: 1. Don’t hire based on specific degrees. Half our team doesn’t have a technical degree. But they are incredibly versatile. A skill that doesn’t get measured in exams - so look out for it. 2. Promote people who make the impossible, possible. You want your team to push boundaries & think differently. Encourage it. 3. Build a team that genuinely cares. When employees listen to customer problems, And want to be the best version of themselves, You get better results. Which lesson resonated the most? 

Before thinking about building a team ….. let’s make this a check list ☑️

Having dedicated employees who demonstrate loyalty is akin to having a cohesive and committed team in a professional setting.

Today we welcomed a new team member 👏 What you see: people gathering, eating cookies 🍪 and drinking milk 🥛 (cookies in the cafe, obviously) and engaged with each other. What you don't see: the game that we were playing, which was hilarious, insightful and encouraging. Every time someone new joins our team, Drew Harden makes up a game. You never know what it's going to be, but you do know a few things for sure: 1. It will be hilarious & fun 2. It will be super random 3. It will shed light on our culture 4. It will help the new employee see a little of each person's personality 5. It will be something everyone looks forward to happening again and is glad we did it Today's game: 1.
