While we are all doing our best to maintain our work-life balance and keep our personal lives personal, I think it is important to remember that the average American will spend about 1/3 of their life at work. Given that fact, I think there is a lot to be said about organizations that contribute to their employees volunteering and donation efforts which is why I figured I would share my annual fundraising efforts here with my network. In 2018, I lost my older brother, Stephen, to suicide. Since that day, I have been doing what I can to share resources, provide support and speak about the importance of Suicide Prevention and the work of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. A donation of $50 can provide suicide prevention resources to 25 people. When most organizations match their employeess' donation activity, I think it truly is crucial to share this message here with my network. While I ask you to donate, I am also acutely aware that not everyone is in a position to donate at this time. Please consider sharing within your own networks. Simply speaking about suicide prevention and letting those around you know that it is a cause you care about can truly and genuinely save someone's life. Talk Saves Lives!

I’ll be in silence, limiting communication to work-related emails. My focus will be on creating content and training. During this time, I won’t engage in conversations with FBS staff, clients, family, or anyone else. Why? To empathise with the experience of adults in domestic abuse situations—having a voice but being unable to use it. Two days is a mere fraction of what they endure daily. Previous challenges showed Day 1 as tolerable, but Day 2 brought feelings of isolation and frustration, where I almost vanished from others’ awareness. We are doing a fundraiser for @tendingthegarden.4.sas If you are unaware of what@ttg is, it is my non-profit . “Founded in 2019 by Jimanekia Eborn, Tending the Garden grew from an idea to an organization rooted in social justice, equity, and compassionate care. In totality, Tending the Garden is for marginalized survivors who are looking for community, healing, education, and growth. We strive to provide this community through retreats, workshops, live events, and resources. Our programming is created to serve underserved individuals who deserve to feel seen, supported, and heard in an environment where they will be respected and not re-traumatized.” I say all that to say I need YOUR HELP! We are doing a fundraiser where you do not have to spend money!! We just need you to answer a few questions and survey products you already use. I am once again reaching out to my network to talk about a topic no one wants to talk about. Suicide is a very real issue in the world. In the United States alone we saw nearly 50,000 suicides in 2022, a 2.6% increase from 2021. Those numbers represent actual people in our communities. 50,000 mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, best friends, and more lost. What those numbers don't show are the people who attempted but didn't pass away. It also doesn't show those who were left behind when a loved one made that decision. Many lives are impacted when someone makes that choice. Every year I contribute to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention 's "Out of Darkness Walk" here in San Francisco. We raise money to provide money for research and services to help address this issue. This issue is very important to me as I believe our mental health is important and that every life deserves to be saved. Every year I ask my network to donate to this cause to help us save lives. October 6, 2024 is the NYC Chapter Out of Darkness Walk. It will start the NYC Seaport Pier 16 & 17 in the Seaport District. The event opens at 10AM. The walk starts at 11:30AM Many many of you helped last year with donations to my fund raising. I'm asking again if you can help prevent a suicide and support research into suicide. Please donate what you can. Did you know? The construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates among professions — with the rate among male construction workers 75% higher than men in the general population. 6,000 construction workers died by suicide in 2022 and increase from 2021. It's uncomfortable because we know we ought do more than give a couple dollars, but we're also worried our donation will be wasted on an addiction. When Helping Hurts explains that most (well-intended!) Christian charity work creates more harm than good. When we paint homes for able-bodied people, when we give out free food to families capable of working for themselves (and so on), we reinforce dependency instead of helping people to rise up to self-sufficiency. The practical principles in this book explain how to identify and solve the real problems homeless and other charity-dependent people face.
