A new skills bootcamp designed to fast-track careers in construction has opened its doors at HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd’s Euston site. Aimed at getting local people ‘job ready’ in just two weeks, the intensive course offers the full training and accreditation needed to start work as a plant machinery operator. The programme is free to Camden residents over the age of 19 and is designed to support those who are either currently out of work or are seeking a career change to gain new skills which will help secure an opportunity in the construction industry. #railnews #railways #ukrail #rail

We are currently working with Major Tier 1 Construction Contractors and Companies around the North of England to deliver a series of boot camps where education leavers and the long term unemployed are given the skills and certifications required to get in to, or back in to, the construction industry. The certificates and qualifications offered can be bespoke to you and your company. However, below is a list of training and certificates the current set of candidates will undertake. The courses in conjunction with the Department for Education (DfE) are designed for people looking to join the construction sector or existing groundworkers looking to move into a supervisor role and enhance their skills. Careys will be hosting the courses at its Construction Campus but they are open to candidates from other contractors and all potential new recruits to the industry. Funding will be provided by the DfE on a sliding scale depending on circumstances. Careys Head of Resourcing, Social Value and Early Talent, Maddy Donaghy, said: “Construction is suffering from a shortage of skilled workers – over 250,000 extra workers will be required to meet UK construction output by 2028. Over 50,000 additional workers are required per year. “The Construction Skills Bootcamp provides an excellent opportunity to develop a career as a groundworker, or for existing groundworkers looking to move into a supervisor role, and enhance their skills and develop a career, either at Careys or with another company in the industry.” Two courses will available for general operatives and construction supervisors

WRBL News 3's Hannah James reports this week on a construction training program in Columbus run by (client) Construction Ready and Goodwill of the Southern Rivers. This adult construction training program in Columbus is a 20-day adult program provides participants with the training and credentials needed for entry level jobs in the construction industry. The goal of the Construction Ready program is to help close the workforce skills gap. Since expanding into the Columbus region in 2021, Goodwill and Construction Ready have offered several training classes and graduated dozens of students placing them in jobs across western Georgia. There is a high need for skilled workers, closing this skills gap and educating more people about careers in the skilled professions is Construction Ready’s primary goal. Leading the charge: Balfour Beatty Flannery trains 1,000 workers to bridge UK construction skills gap Balfour Beatty Flannery, a partnership between Balfour Beatty and Flannery Plant Hire, has trained its 1,000th student at its Operator Skills Hub - showcasing its commitment to diversity and inclusion, transforming lives and bridging the construction skills gap. With over 250,000 additional workers needed in the construction industry by 2028, Balfour Beatty Flannery’s Operator Skills Hub is key in addressing the sector’s significant skills shortage and providing trainees with a direct path into employment - with an 80% job conversion rate, far exceeding the national average of 36%. Established in 2021 and supported by the UK Government’s Skills Bootcamp initiative,the Hub offers innovative training and apprenticeship schemes in plant operations. It aims to attract new talent to the sector while upskilling existing operators, with over 60% of graduates being made up of, or being, women (5%), young people (13%), the previously unemployed (27%), people with disabilities (12%), ex-offenders (4%), and veterans (5%). In addition, the purpose-built facility in Birmingham provides 200 supplementary courses for current plant operators to further upskill and prepare them for the modern-day, digitally enabled construction site.
