Exciting developments are underway at the Longonjo minesite, with Pensana reporting significant progress in preparation for the main construction phase. This follows the early-stage development activities funded by a US$15 million loan from FSDEA. Highlights Include: ▶️ Completion of civil works for the camp. ▶️ Rehabilitation of the access road connecting to the Longonjo railway station. ▶️ Upgrading of a 4.5 km road linking the site to the Benguela railway, crucial for material transport during construction and later for exporting Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate. The Benguela railway line, part of the strategic Lobito corridor, positioning the corridor as a key player in Africa’s rail transport system. This aligns with #Pensana’s efforts in fostering sustainable mining and community development. Oriole Resources PLC (AIM:ORR) CEO Tim Livesey joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with an update on the company's Senala gold project in Senegal after its partner at the project AGEM Senegal Exploration, part of Managem Group, completed a six-year earn-in period. Livesey said over the six years, AGEM aimed to earn up to 70% ownership through an $8 million investment but concluded the period with a roughly 59% stake. The Senala project, described as a "legacy asset" by Livesey, is part of Oriole's portfolio despite a recent focus on Cameroon. As the partnership moves forward, Livesey said Oriole will evaluate its involvement based on forthcoming work plans and budget proposals from the joint venture, considering the substantial investments required for further development. Last Friday was International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, a day dedicated to honouring and advocating for the rights, cultures and contributions of Indigenous communities globally. Oftentimes, despite living on or near lands close to important natural resources, Indigenous peoples miss out on the opportunities and prosperity these afford. The UN estimates that Indigenous peoples make up less than 6% of the world’s population, but account for at least 15% of the poorest. As one of the world’s largest mining companies, we have a role to play in changing this. Our RioProjects team is often one of the first touchpoints an Indigenous community has with Rio Tinto, whether that be to negotiate access to lands or to help shape a project so it’s mutually beneficial for both parties. We take this responsibility seriously. We have learned lessons from our past and know that forming close, positive relationships with the communities that host our projects and operations is the only way we can be successful. Every day, we are working hard on listening, understanding and doing better. From Argentina to Western Australia’s Pilbara, from Mongolia to Guinea, from Canada to Serbia, and everywhere in between, we are honoured to be partners for progress in all the communities in which we work. #partnersforprogress #rioprojects #findingbetterways #buildingourfuturetogether

Francistown #Sez – #Francistown – #Botswana Francistown Sez. Francistown, Botswana's second-largest city, was designated as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) with the goal of transforming it into a hub for freight, logistics, #mining supplies distribution, aerospace, aviation, and engineering industries. The SEZ, located on a 1,200-hectare area, is strategically positioned near key mining operations and important transportation routes, including major roads and railway lines to Zimbabwe, Zambia, and other African markets. The plan aims to leverage Francistown’s location as a key corridor for goods traveling through southern Africa. For example, it is positioned as a #logistics alternative to cities like Durban and Johannesburg, offering direct access to mines within a 200km radius. Additionally, the SEZ includes the Philip Matante International Airport, which will serve both local and international markets. Despite these ambitious plans, the Francistown SEZ has faced https://lnkd.in/dzKWk4WW #SEZA

We plan to complete the DFS for our flagship Oropesa Tin Project by the end of the year after securing Administration support for a modified project layout to further improve environmental and community outcomes. Key modifications include relocating waste dumps and the tailings dam to minimise environmental impact, redesigning a section of the access road, and moving infrastructure to optimise operations. The project modifications reflect a responsible and sustainable approach, focusing on reducing environmental impacts and providing rehabilitation measures. The targeted receipt of primary licences is set for late 2025, with first production anticipated by late 2027. Managing Director Joe David commented: “The Oropesa Project is one of the world’s largest undeveloped, open-cut tin deposits with special strategic significance to the European Union which is committed to sourcing a responsible and local ‘domestic’ supply of critical minerals like tin.” “The Administration has always been a strong supporter of the Project and we thank the officials in its key departments for working collaboratively with the company to find a responsible way forward which further improves the project’s ESG credentials. Both parties share a commitment to sustainable and responsible projects.” “In addition, we are both motivated to stimulate the economically stressed north-western Cordoba region, especially the Guadiato Valley where Oropesa is located. The project has been re-affirmed as a key project within the Government’s Project Accelerator Unit and has support from the highest levels of the Administration through to the local mayors, community stakeholders and residents.” Read the full ASX Announcement here: https://bit.ly/3yl7qYC #tin #ELT #Elementos #ASX #ASXNews #MiningNews

Africa is home to some of the greatest transport #infrastructureprojects of our time: the US- and EU-backed #Lobitho project, a new rail line that will connect a port on the continent’s Atlantic coast to a key source of critical minerals in central Africa; and the Chinese-funded bi-national railway, Tanzania-Zambia Railway (#TAZARA), which connects #Zambia’s copper heartland with the Indian Ocean port of Dar es Salaam in neighbouring #Tanzania. While the significance of these railway projects cannot be overstated, they remain a race to control #criticalminerals trade routes. Bittersweet for the #African continent.

The Suez Canal, spanning 193 kilometers, was constructed over a decade from 1859 to 1869, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea and linking Africa, Europe, and Asia. The Grand Union Canal, stretching 220 kilometers, took 35 years to build from 1794 to 1829, connecting Birmingham to mainland London. The Grand Canal, extending 1,800 kilometers, was completed in just five years from 604 to 609, connecting Zhejiang to Beijing. These feats, among others, were accomplished during medieval times without modern technology. Thus, the idea of dredging a sea route from Accra to Kumasi, and even to Tamale, is conceivable. While doubts may arise regarding Cheddar's suitability to lead Ghana, his vision for dredging presents a plausible opportunity for advancement. Moreover, we need wild risk-takers if we are to advance as a nation and make great strides.
