Research Fellow at Durban University of Technology (Tourism/𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 (𝐂𝐁𝐓)/Food tourism).
About the International 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 (𝐂𝐁𝐓) Network (For a just tourism) Community-based tourism (CBT) is very much (and for some time) losing its meaning and aim because of distortions through reframings that do not capture its essence and substance. This cannot go unchallenged. It is, therefore, imperative to oppose this shift, and re-emphasise and restore CBT’s fundamental principles and characteristics. CBT is meant for disadvantaged community members and includes issues such as the adoption of a holistic approach to sustainabilities and empowerments, self-reliance, equity, local control/ownership of tourism facilities and resources and, fundamentally, be based on social justice and redistributive perspectives and practices - it must work for a more just tourism and society. This is a Community Based Tourism (CBT) dedicated group meant for academics, policy makers, NGOs personnel and anyone else involved in, or sympathizing/supporting, CBT. The group aim is to serves as a networking platform to share ideas, experiences and practices concerning CBT in order to enhance CBT role and value within the broader tourism sector. It is important to support CBT and to find new ideas, solutions and perspectives on how to improve, enhance and expand it. The group also welcomes CBT national (local) network/organisation. You are welcome to post here any information, articles, book chapter, conference or any other news (the good, the bad and the ugly) related to CBT. Thank you. #tourism #internationalcbtnetwork #communitybasedtourism #cbt #sustainabletourism #alternativetourism #tourismdevelopment #responsibletourism
