Despite being essential to life on Earth, wetlands are largely overlooked. These ecosystems play a critical role in global climate regulation, are home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, and support the lives and livelihoods of over a billion people across the globe. However, wetlands across the globe are facing critical threats to their very existence. They are disappearing 3x faster than forests, and 25% of wetland species are at risk of extinction. We must do more to restore and protect them. Watch our new film to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eTeTFW52 #Wetlands #WetlandProtection #NatureRestoration #Biodiversity #ClimateAction

Affordable Housing & Inclusionary Zoning Advocate. Exclusionary Zoning was the cause. Inclusionary Zoning is the cure. Zoning is the foundation of housing.
Wetlands are considered the most biologically diverse of all ecosystems, and occur naturally on every continent except Antarctica. Serving as home to an astonishing variety of plant and animal life, wetlands also serve as an important environment to many bird species. The water in wetlands is either freshwater, brackish, or saltwater, and wetland types include swamps, bogs, and marshes. Most of these unique and fragile ecosystems are protected. But all remain vulnerable to climate change and the effects of human impact.
Take a look at the most amazing wetlands in the world

🐻❄️ Polar bears are in real danger – and they’re not the aggressors here. These majestic animals are innocent victims of climate change, and their icy hunting grounds are melting fast, leaving them stranded and starving. 👉 Did you know? 📉 Stat #1: In some areas, polar bear populations have plummeted by over 40% in just a few decades. 📉 Stat #2: With sea ice disappearing, polar bears face a staggering 71% habitat loss in the Arctic by 2050. 👉 But this isn’t just about polar bears. It’s about the fate of our entire planet 🌍 👉 Here’s how we can all help: 1. Cut Carbon Emissions: Every effort counts – from biking to choosing energy-efficient products. 🚴💡 2. Protect Natural Habitats: Support organizations working to conserve the Arctic and other vulnerable ecosystems. 👉 Together, we can protect our wildlife and preserve our planet for future generations. ♻️ Please share to inspire others – every step toward awareness counts! 👉 Follow Me Vipin Bais

🌿 𝟓 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬 🌿 Seagrass may not always be in the spotlight, but it plays a crucial role in our marine ecosystems and global environment. Here are five compelling reasons why restoring and protecting seagrass is vital: 1. 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝘽𝙞𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙃𝙤𝙩𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙩 🌊: Seagrass meadows provide a habitat for a diverse array of marine life, including fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates. These underwater forests offer shelter and breeding grounds, supporting rich and varied ecosystems essential for a healthy ocean. 2. 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙤𝙣 🌍: Seagrass is incredibly efficient at capturing and storing carbon dioxide, playing a critical role in mitigating climate change. Per unit area, seagrass meadows can sequester carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests, making their conservation a powerful tool in our climate action efforts. 3. 𝘾𝙤𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 🏝️: The root systems of seagrass help stabilize the seafloor, reducing coastline erosion and protecting shorelines from the impacts of storms and wave action. This natural barrier is vital for maintaining coastal integrity, preserving habitats, and protecting human infrastructure. 4. 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 💧: Seagrass beds improve water quality by trapping sediments, filtering pollutants, and absorbing excess nutrients. This natural filtration process enhances the clarity and quality of coastal waters, benefiting both marine life and human communities. 5. 𝙀𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙚 📈: Healthy seagrass meadows support fisheries and tourism, which are significant sources of income for many coastal communities. By preserving seagrass ecosystems, we sustain livelihoods, recreational opportunities, and overall economic health. 𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐰: Protecting and restoring seagrass is not just an environmental necessity but an investment in our future. As an advocate for sustainable practices, we urge everyone to support initiatives that conserve these vital ecosystems. Whether through policy support, community engagement, or personal actions, every effort counts. 🌿 Together, we can ensure that seagrass meadows continue to thrive, benefiting marine life, our planet, and future generations. 📩 Let’s connect to discuss how we can collaborate on initiatives to protect and restore seagrass, and drive meaningful environmental impact. #SeagrassProtection #MarineConservation #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #SustainableCoasts #EnvironmentalStewardship #OceanHealth #EcoFriendlyInitiatives
Seagrass meadows sustain a dazzling array of species while bringing climate, social and economic benefits to people worldwide. And yet, seagrass is facing a steep decline: it's estimated that the equivalent of a football field worth of seagrass meadows is lost every 30 minutes. But there is hope. Across the world, the #OceanDecade community of scientists is researching and implementing solutions to protect and restore seagrass. ⤵️

Jun 14, 2024 Germany is losing its forests, FAST. In the central Harz region, over 90 percent of spruce trees are dead or dying because of climate change and insect damage. But this isn’t necessarily bad news. Instead of the former monoculture forest, a more resilient, wild forest is springing up, with a more abundant ecosystem. #climatechange #barkbeetle #PlanetA
