On June 19th, we commemorate Juneteenth, a significant milestone in American history. While the Emancipation Proclamation declared all enslaved people in Confederate states legally free at the stroke of midnight on January 1st, 1863, freedom did not reach everyone immediately. Due to Confederate control, many remained enslaved until Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, on June 19, 1865. It was then that over 250,000 enslaved Black people in Texas were finally declared free by executive decree. This day, known as "Juneteenth," marks the true beginning of freedom for many and is a powerful reminder of resilience and the ongoing pursuit of equality. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #History #Equality
