🎨 The Labor Market in the Museum Sector: A Changing Landscape 🏛️ As someone who's passionate about museums and the cultural sector, I've noticed significant shifts in the labor market for museum professionals in recent years. From curators to education specialists, the industry is facing new challenges and opportunities: Digital Transformation: Museums have embraced virtual experiences, increasing the demand for tech-savvy professionals. Digital curators, virtual exhibit designers, and social media strategists are now crucial roles in the sector. Funding Challenges: Many institutions are navigating financial constraints, leading to more contract-based or freelance positions. Flexibility is becoming a key asset in the museum workforce. Focus on Diversity & Inclusion: There’s a growing emphasis on diversifying staff and perspectives, with institutions making strides to represent underrepresented voices in both exhibitions and leadership roles. The Skills Gap: There’s a blend of traditional curatorial expertise needed alongside new skills like data analysis, marketing, and community engagement. While this evolving landscape brings uncertainty, it also presents exciting opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and growth in the museum world. 🖼️ How are you seeing these changes in your corner of the cultural sector? Today's museum question: Museums have for decades had very little rotation of staff (in my experience, partly also for obvious reasons, there isn't an abundance of jobs in this sector). There are benefits and at the same time draw backs to this. Younger people (in general) have different expectations on work, job hopping, remote or hybrid work, work life balance etc. How do museums tap into regional, national and potentially global talent pools, and simultaneously manage being a physical destination, with physical collections and exhibitions as well as a borderless multiplatform life long learning resource and experience factory? In today's post I would like to talk about audio tours and how they affect the museum experience. In the dynamic world of museum experiences, audio tour voice overs are proving to be a game-changer. Recent studies from various prestigious institutions have shed light on the multifaceted benefits of this technology. 🔍 Deepening Visitor Engagement & Educational Value: A fascinating study at the Indianapolis Museum of Art revealed a notable trend. Visitors utilizing audio guides for museums showed higher levels of engagement with exhibits, spending more time immersed in the experience. These visitors also demonstrated a better recall of the information presented, indicating a deeper learning impact. 🌐 Boosting Accessibility: Highlighting the inclusive nature of audio tours, research published in the Journal of Cultural Heritage emphasized their value for visitors with visual impairments. Audio tours provide an accessible alternative to traditional text labels and exhibit signage, ensuring that more visitors can enjoy a rich museum experience. 🌍 Reaching Beyond Walls: A study in the Journal of Heritage Tourism pointed out that audio tour guides available online can extend a museum's reach far beyond its physical location, engaging audiences who might not be able to visit in person. This digital approach not only enhances engagement but can also inspire future physical visits. As you can see, audio guides for museums are not just an add-on; they are a powerful tool reshaping how museums connect with their audiences, making experiences more memorable, accessible, and educational. A man to follow: Forbes Council Member, Keynote Speaker, Performance & Education Reform Coach, Author & Trainer
Africa is rising…
Mechanical Engineering | Passionate about Energy optimisation | Reliability | Thermal efficiency | Media
Lights, Camera, Volunteer 🎬📸 I recently had the privilege of participating in the "Street to Forbes Campus Tour" event, and it was a wonderful experience. This initiative, led by Dr. Akin' Akinpelu, a distinguished member of the Forbes Coaches Council, aims to empower young Africans and equip them with the tools they need to overcome challenges and achieve success. As head of the multimedia volunteer team during the event's stop at Bells University Of Technology, I had the opportunity to lead and coordinate various media departments, including photography, videography, content creation, graphic design, and live projection. Drawing upon my expertise as a video editor, I collaborated closely with videographers and editors to produce compelling promotional content, highlights, and informative videos. What made this experience truly enriching was the chance to work alongside professionals from different backgrounds. I took the opportunity to learn new skills outside my area of specialization, gaining new knowledge about multimedia production and event coverage in the process. Through the event, I was also reminded that success is not handed to you – it's something you actively pursue and strive for, as no one owes you anything. A realization that our success is ultimately our own responsibility. After weeks of planning, I’m glad the event was a success and grateful for the chance to contribute to such a meaningful initiative. #StreetToForbes #PersonalGrowth #Empowerment #Leadership #Multimedia

I was hoping it wouldn’t get to this point, but unfortunately the job market is getting worse. My name is Meli, and I am a multidisciplinary artist who has been struggling to find work in my field since I graduated college in Fall 2019. I was fortunate to find an remote internship during lockdown, which provided me with some income and experience during the pandemic. I entered the education field in Fall of 2021 because my ideal industry, marketing, was too competitive to land work- despite having several internships and volunteer experience in that department. Three years later, things are progressively getting worse. I can count off on all ten fingers the amount of friends who are unemployed, working little hours, and with little pay despite having associates and bachelor’s degrees in the arts and media. Despite going to a specialized art high school, having two bachelor’s degrees in the arts/media, working over 10 jobs since I was 15 (I’m 27 now) networking weekly, and building a website and portfolio from scratch I am still struggling. I haven’t gotten one interview since last fall, when I had to abruptly leave my full time job as a teacher to return to after school, where hours are significantly less than when it was when I first started in education. I almost considered doing retail again for the time being, but physically cannot due to an underlying condition. With the proposal of Project 2025, I am even more nervous about my current role as an art instructor. After school programming is usually the first thing to get cut. If that’s the case- program directors, teaching artists, and group leaders will be out of work. I still believe that despite of this hardship, I will be able to find my dream career in media! If anyone knows of any openings within marketing, graphic design, photography or videography, please let me know! I am also in the process of setting up a freelance photography business this summer in the meantime before returning to work in September. Attached is my portfolio. Any feedback is welcomed too, just DM me! https://lnkd.in/eDau_AX9 #jobs #artist #statvingartist #marketing #media #jobopenings

Dear Parents HSC (12th) results are out and As an academician, I witness a common concern: parents pushing their children towards traditional careers like medicine or engineering, overlooking their natural talents. But let me tell you, the world needs diverse talent—not just engineers and doctors. Is your child a natural storyteller with a knack for technology? Explore careers in performing arts, animation & VFX development, architecture, interior design, user experience design, or even management. These fields combine creativity with technical skills, offering exciting opportunities. I urge the parents to explore options together that nurture their unique talents and passions.
