Many sponsorships that have never worked with Institutional Capital include on their team a "Capital Markets" person. Their job is to add value by finding the Direct Capital for the Sponsorship's Deals. Instead, they end up sending the Deals to Brokers. HJ has been the recipient of many of these Deals. How are they adding value? I see the same thing with Syndicators post rate hikes, inserting themselves into Sponsorship's Deals promising Direct Access to Deal Capital only to then send the Deals to Brokers. How are they adding value? HJ gladly reviews the Deals, and in some cases move them forward. However, it does reflect poorly in the Capital Market's mind that these Sponsorships are employing an unnecessary expensive layer to the Deal. In some cases that extra layer causes the Metrics to not Pencil Out killing the Deal. We Place Senior, Mezzanine, Preferred, LP-GP and JV Capital.
