Whilst Google might still reign supreme with over 85% of the search market share, according to the latest WonderTools newsletter, Jeremy Caplan says that AI-fueled Perplexity, Dexa, and Arc Search provide refreshing alternatives to the traditional Google search box. He describes the difference between Google and AI search as “having a smart assistant who not only finds the book you’re looking for in a vast library but opens it to the exact page that has the information you need. Google just points you toward potentially relevant bookshelves. In a nutshell, Caplan recommends these three AI search engines based on specific needs: * Perplexity: Free for normal use. Google and similar search engines often provide generalised information that may not address specific nuances. Choose it over Google when you’re trying to find a specific site or compiling a list of sites to research yourself; when you have a narrow query; or need info on a highly-specific subject. * Dexa: Free for now. If looking for specific content, such as insights shared through podcasts, Dexa specialises solely on podcast content. Skip scrolling through old episodes or lengthy transcripts—it links you to relevant podcast moments instantly. * Arc Search: Free but only available for iOS for now. You must select the “browse for me” option after typing in a search query to access the AI capabilities, or you’ll just get an ordinary Web search. For example, searching travel recommendations on Google provides single perspectives from various sources. Arc Search gathers various recommendations, providing summaries and in-depth links for a comprehensive overview. #AISearchEngines #AIVersusTraditionalSearch
