Imagine this: Over a year ago, you received a promotion, a dream come true, yet you were never informed. How would that feel? Now, imagine that the very knowledge of your freedom was withheld from you for over a year. It's almost unimaginable, yet this was a reality for many. Today, as we celebrate Juneteenth, it’s crucial to reflect on this profound experience. Juneteenth, observed on June 19th, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. This delay underscores the immense cost of withheld information and the injustice faced by those kept in the dark. Juneteenth is not just another day off; it’s a day of reflection, education, and acknowledgment of our history. It’s a time to honor the resilience and enduring spirit of those who fought for their freedom and rights. Let us use this day to educate ourselves and others, to reflect on the importance of transparency and communication, and to celebrate the progress made while recognizing the work still ahead. As we reflect on Juneteenth we can begin to create new narratives that foster an environment where information flows freely, where everyone is empowered with knowledge, and where freedom and justice are truly universal. #Juneteenth #Reflection #Freedom #History #Empowerment #Transparency #storytelling #yournexthought
Juneteenth is deeply personal for me, as it marks the hard-won freedom of my great-great-grandfather and countless others, reminding us of our ancestors' resilience and the ongoing journey towards justice, equality, and empowerment for the African American community.
Very well said, Ranieka and an opportunity for us all to learn and grow
Something we should all remember Ranieka. Thank you.
Juneteenth is a reminder of how lack of transparency negatively impacts the progress that our society should make towards "justice for all."

Resilience is one of my favorite words. It's an incredible story - thank you for sharing.
May the nation reflect on this important day when so many people in power are trying to knock down anything related to DEI initiatives.
Ranieka Weston, PCC, SHRM-SCP yes, may we continue to work towards living in a world where freedom and justice are truly universal. Tomorrow and regularly I will reflect on freedom and trying to do my part to make positive change in the world.
