Does your dog need a private dog park? Public dog parks are EW. According to the US Chamber of Commerce, there is a increasing economic trend towards "pet humanisation." What is that you ask? (yeah me too) We thought Americans were already obsessed with our pets but it turns out that behavior is only increasing. One of the ways in which this is rearing it's head is in the traditional dog park landscape. Looks like those taxpayer public dog parks are not cutting it for some furry friends and owners have taken to the idea of "private dog parks." This trend is happening in major US cities where greenspace is limited and new dog owners have higher disposable income. Two examples: New York City - The Soho Grand Dog Park LA - West Coast Dog PPL (a canine social club) Both ranging in prices from $120-$150 per month. Now the experiential marketer in me observes this trend and my mind just runs wild (pun intended). How can we destroy a cute concept by slapping logos all over it? Well, I think there are tasteful ways to approach this and look at some brands that aren't the obvious choices but appeal to the lifestyle of a dog owner. Let's think about some examples: YETI REI Garmin Subaru of America New Balance GoPro Canon Inc. Now the brand establishes themselves as the bridge between the lifestyle of a dog owner and their product by providing an "invite only" experience that supports who they are as a person. There is also a HUGE opportunity for local restaurants, breweries, food halls and coffee shops to play into this fad and give the doggy's what (we think) they want... I have two dogs that I love very much and yeah, if a beer or coffee is included...I'll sign up for a private park. Do you want to take your dog with you to more places? If your dog isn't a service animal, you'll need to know the rules at the store, business, or other facility where you plan to take your pet. But, the good news is, there are many dog-friendly places. Various restaurants will have dog-friendly patios, some hotels offer pet-friendly rooms, some nursing homes welcome doggie visitors, and certain stores are happy to welcome your buddy. If you're not sure what the rules are, just do a quick Google search or reach out to the company directly and ask. It's that simple. You may be surprised at the places you can take your doggo. #dogparentlife #dogsrule

You can take your dog to pet friendly cafés or events. But does your dog really want to go? One common sentence I often hear from pet parents - “I want to take my dog to the next PetFed event or to the local brewery or to the dog park so that my dog can enjoy with me and be around other dogs.” I simply ask them one question - “Does your dog really want to go or this is what you think your dog should do?” Remember this, “just like we humans, every dog is an individual with their own set of choices.” Pause and ask yourself what does my dog enjoy doing? Offering your dog to do things that they enjoy must be boring to you but not to your dog. Your dog will never miss out on things that they don’t want or like. If your dog is stressed at dog parks, they’re not missing out if you opt for a solo sniffy walk or a hike with a close dog friend. If your dog finds busy or crowded environments overwhelming, putting a control tool around their neck isn’t going to solve the problem either. Dogs are honest when they tell us how something feels. Their behavior is information. You should work to help your dog feel more comfortable in the world. But it’s perfectly OK to accept that your dog may never be comfortable at a brewery or a dog park or an event.
