We certified the Hilton Central Station Hotel as dog-friendly, they scored a solid B+ rank, making them a decent choice in Memphis. For a canine tax of just $35 per night, they conveniently provide food and water bowls. In our view, Hilton Hotels & Resorts could be doing dog-friendly better. https://lnkd.in/d5kES5n7

Offering dog amenities, such as a dog menu, can set a hotel apart from competitors. It serves as a unique selling point that can be marketed to stand out in a crowded hospitality industry. In regions where many hotels operate, those with dog-friendly services and special amenities for dogs can differentiate themselves, drawing guests who might otherwise choose another accommodation. This gives the hotel a competitive advantage, allowing it to justify premium pricing for the added value provided to dog parents, and it can help increase occupancy rates during off-peak seasons when dog parents travel. A new survey of 10,000 American dog owners by Forbes Advisor revealed that 82% of dog owners travel with their dogs. When asked what annoys dog owners the most, 37% of respondents said that being unable to bring their dog is their top annoyance. Is your hotel accommodating this growing demographic? Offering dog-friendly rooms is not longer enough. By offering dog-specific amenities, a hotel taps into the pet-owner market, which can be quite lucrative. Pet owners often seek accommodations that not only allow their furry friends but also cater to their needs. By providing a dog menu and other amenities, hotels position themselves as desirable destinations for pet owners, potentially increasing bookings and expanding their customer base. We certified The Ivey's Hotel and they are great example 'how not to do dog friendly'. They barely scraped a C rank, scoring just 11 points out of 52. This is because they price gouge dog owners with unnecessarily steep fees while providing no services, amenities, or facilities for dogs in return, or even allowing them access to the wider hotel, and to make things worse they have a small weight limit meaning only very small dogs are welcome. We use hotels like this as an example of how not all dog friendly hotels are created equally, and how the words 'dog friendly' mean nothing unless they have been properly certified and ranked by an independent third party. A textbook example of a hotel that can be described as dog tolerant at best. You folks need to do better than this Kyle DeHont. https://lnkd.in/dt5i4qQi

🔴 Four-poster #dog beds, tail-lored tasting menus, puppacinos for breakfast – hotels are pandering to the paw patrol more than ever. But while #Britain has long been a nation of dog lovers, aren’t we going a little too far? After all, not everyone is a fan of the four-legged #hotel guest. Telegraph reader Penny Entecott from Middleton-on-Sea in West Sussex had her mini-break with her husband ruined by damp dogs, pampered pooches and marauding mutts. ‘SIR – My husband and I recently checked into a hotel for a three-night break. Sitting in the bar waiting for our room to be ready, we gasped in amazement when a couple walked into the foyer with two wet dogs (Letters, January 10) and went straight to their room. We counted another 12 dogs arriving with owners. Dogs were not allowed in the main restaurant but could be in the bar area, where food was served all day. At one point a pampered pooch was in a chair opposite its owner eating off a plate. ‘The best part was when one dog in the restaurant took umbrage against another, and a snarling fight took place, with both owners cooing at their dogs to settle down. Apart from the #hygiene issue, the noise and smell spoilt the atmosphere for us. Checking the dog policy is now high on our list when #booking hotels.’ However, Penny and her husband might be in the minority. With almost a third of #UK households owning a dog (there are more than 12 million mutts) and 56 per cent of dog owners choosing to #travel with their #pets, more and more hotels are jumping on the dog-friendly bandwagon. According to Euromonitor International’s World Travel Market global trends report, hotels becoming pet-friendly could increase revenues by 30 per cent a year, a figure not to be sniffed at. The ‘hound pound’ is estimated to be worth nearly £10 billion a year. Read more here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eNVEjsxi

OK, the bad news first: working on this pet-friendly hotel guide for Visit Philadelphia was an exercise in fact-checking and not taking information posted online as is. with more than 50 local hotels that claim to be pet-friendly, many have outdated information on their websites, including pertinent details about fees and amenities. it took numerous rounds of calls with numerous hotel staff to verify information, which is frustrating. So here's my reminder and call to action for hospitality brands: stay on top of your digital platforms with accurate up-to-date information so you can better service readers, media outlets, and potential customers! the good news: as a dog owner myself who travels frequently with their four-legged large son, I know from experience what makes a great pet-friendly hotel. so I did extensive research to find the coolest pet perks and on-site property tips for other pet parents. hope this hotel guide is useful to visiting pet parents! https://lnkd.in/e4-M6PqC
