Regional materials and sustainable principles were part of our clients' vision for their flagship branch, Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union (SASCU). Inspired by the natural and manmade characteristics of the site’s surroundings, the long angular green roof reaches up to the sky. The predominant use of wood offsets the building’s carbon footprint while superior energy performance is achieved with the introduction of “earth tubes”. Carbon prices are a key policy tool to mitigate climate change, including those emitted by constructing and maintaining buildings. The ACC is a multi disciplinary group which also includes architects and actuaries. In this ACC article Tim den Dekker and Roelof Coertze explore whether the carbon prices that are assumed in the NGFS scenarios are high enough to steer real estate investment decisions towards lower carbon design alternatives. https://lnkd.in/dpsWzkr6 #carboncredits #carbonpricing #buildingindustry #netzero #actuary #architect Louise Pryor Simon Sturgis Mike Clark Colin Wilson Martin Pike Paul Pritchard Ian Hally Kateryna Katyukha Swiegers Andrew Kitchen FIA Neil Dissanayake Gowri Kotur Faisal Zai Alastair Gilg Junaid Iqbal Andrew Smith

In mass timber construction, everything is exposed, therefore thoughtful placement of mechanical and electrical components is imperative. This level of attention to detail has shifted the paradigm of design towards craftsmanship rather than mere functionality. As a result, innovative design solutions have emerged as a pivotal driver in the success of mass timber projects. Detailed design considerations, especially regarding mechanical and electrical systems, transform construction into a craft that elevates the overall quality and appeal of modern workplaces. Additionally, the growing need for sustainable and environmentally friendly building practices and materials, particularly regarding the reduction of embodied carbon, makes mass timber adoption a great alternative towards a greener future. #InternationalMassTimberConference #Innovation #FutureofConstruction #Sustainability
