Downer Transport & Infrastructure has deployed vGIS AR on their project to transform Thorndon Quay & Hutt Road for Wellington City Council, a critical transport project in New Zealand’s capital city. The project will enhance public transport reliability, and help to minimize emissions, with peak-hour bus lanes, improved intersections and upgraded pedestrian crossings. By deploying vGIS AR for their project, the Downer team has been able to visualize the extent of the permanent design and how the plans will interact with existing traffic and pedestrian flows, ensuring the safest and most efficient strategies to redirect traffic and pedestrians away from the worksite. #Roundabouts are a popular form of road infrastructure in Europe. In fact, France has the most with nearly 43,000 roundabouts. By comparison, the U.S. has under 10,000. Given the successful track record of roundabouts in Europe, it’s hard to understand why the U.S. has been so slow to adopt them. Studies show that traffic flow improves significantly wherever traditional intersections are replaced by roundabouts. Roundabouts decrease idling and stop-and-go traffic, and they reduce vehicle emissions and fuel consumption. Roundabouts have also proven to be much safer for pedestrians when properly designed and constructed.
