Presentation of regional good practices and information exchange play an essential role in the projects of the Interreg Europe funding program. The Regional Council of Kainuu is involved in the CHERRY project, which develops the role of culture in regional development. In January-February, the project has gathered regional practices from culture and creative fields related to three themes: 1) local development, 2) valorization of cultural and natural heritage, and 3) urban development. The practices of different regions have been discussed at meetings of transnational working groups. From Kainuu, Minna Komulainen and Elina Keränen presented practices related to cultural and natural heritage: Kainuu’s built heritage and cultural environment program, the Singing Heritage Route, and war museums (Raatteen portti and Kuhmo winter war museum). The 9 CHERRY partner areas are different, and they are mainly united by a rich and unique cultural heritage. From Kainuu’s point of view, it is interesting to follow the development activities of the other areas. For example, the support for Italy’s creative industries or the maintenance of UNESCO sites, as well as Belgium’s artistic environmental interventions as part of the regional political discussion, are of interest. We will hear more about other areas when good practices will be compared in more detail. Next up at the end of February is a peer learning trip to Leiedal, Belgium, where the theme is urbanization, digitalization and the green transition in terms of culture and creative industries. #CHERRY #Interreg #InterregEUROPE

Între Ape (Water of in-Betweenness) In recent decades, rising temperatures have caused knock-on effects of floods, droughts, aquifer depletion, groundwater contamination, and ocean acidification. Although there are a multitude of social and governmental initiatives fighting to protect, expand, adapt, and maintain hydrological ecosystems, art can highlight better than any other way of communicating people's relationship with water. The House of European Institutes (#HEI) in Timisoara creates space for reflection and knowledge sharing on the topic of our relationship with water. It builds on #FlowingStreams, a series of residencies for artists and practitioners in rural and semi-rural localities in Romania, as well as a series of independent projects which explore the interconnection between water, land and life. By establishing links between seven international artists and seven Romanian organisations working in rural areas, Flowing Streams has created bridges between artistic proposals and the rural world, between European practitioners and local organisations, and between existing hydrological conditions and future possibilities for re-establishing relationships between people and water. Multiple voices, approaches, and practices have come together to add nuanced layers to an important conversation that is preoccupying artists and researchers around the world. An exhibition and events will take place between October 17 and November 10 in the House of European Institutes space in Bastion 1, in Timișoara. It opens to the public on October 17, from 18:00, with a guided tour by curator Adelina Luft. See more at https://eunic-romania.ro/ Water of in-betweenness is organised by EUNIC Romania and Fundația9, funded by the Legacy Timișoara 2023 program, and in partnership with the Municipality of Timișoara. #BritishCouncilRomania #Flowingstreams #culture #britishcouncil Tamina Bojoanca Cristiana Tăutu Pawel Rutkowski #arts #water #EUNIC
