Fierce Competition As seen in Hunt Scanlon Media's recently released Non-Profit Executive Recruiting newsletter, the competition for talented individuals remains fierce in the #nonprofit sector. “Following the pandemic, many leaders who worked to keep their organizations afloat switched roles, retired, or pursued entirely new opportunities," said Shelli Herman, founder and president of Shelli Herman and Associates, Inc. "This trend is expected to persist for another 12 to 24 months. We are seeing transitions at all levels, especially at the #CEO level. It also appears that everyone is looking for the same qualities, seeking innovative, transformational individuals who can juggle many balls at the same time. While this is not new, it is more prevalent than ever and makes searches more complex and nuanced, presenting a unique challenge.” Read more >> https://lnkd.in/eck_TgF

Non-Profits Seek New Kinds of Leaders with Help from Search Firms As seen in Hunt Scanlon Media's recently released Non-Profit Executive Recruiting newsletter, executive search for the #nonprofit sector often mirrors broader #hiring trends, with a distinct focus on #leadership, strategic vision, and organizational impact. Recruiters say that non-profits, generally, are increasingly seeking executives and management teams who can provide strong leadership, articulate a compelling vision, and inspire stakeholders. “While the non-profit world is facing threats from an unprecedented number of sources at this moment in time, the sector continues to steadfastly adapt and evolve to meet the needs of our society,” said Maeve Clifford, managing partner and co-founder of Pearl Street Collective. “Economic fluctuations mean rising costs, tighter budgets and increased competition for limited dollars. As a result, we’ll see more organizations diversifying revenue streams and investing in resources that could pay dividends later. Mid-size, major, principal, and planned giving programs are on the rise, as are social enterprises and fee-for-service models. We’ll also see more organizations forming strategic partnerships, creating cost-saving efficiencies while amplifying impact.” Read more >> https://lnkd.in/eck_TgF

Helping CEOs find talented, high-performing senior and executive HR leaders through executive search and headhunting that puts DEI at the heart of the process |Executive Search | People Strategy| OD|Talent Assessments
If someone gave you £100k to invest in your business, how long would you spend planning how to spend it? Probably days, maybe even weeks, right? You’d make sure every penny had a purpose! Now, think about recruiting for a £100k-per-year senior or leadership role #CEO or #HRDirector in your organisation. How much time goes into planning that recruitment campaign? Too often, we’re quick to jump into hiring, but getting the right leader can have a far more significant impact than just a salary figure. Do you agree? If you are stuck with competing priorities and prefer an expert to help, DM me. I have recruited for hundreds of leadership roles and specialise in the #Charity or #BCorp sectors. #LeadershipHiring #ExecutiveSearch #TalentInvestment #PurposeDrivenLeadership

One of the most enjoyable parts of writing my book ("Nonprofit Leadership: A Practical Guide to Sustainable Growth") was the interviews I conducted. These interviews gave me a chance to connect with friends and colleagues I hadn't spoken to in years. One of the Executive Directors that I like and admire the most is LaVonte Stewart, MPA. After a few minutes in his company, you realize how good of a leader and how caring he is. LaVonte runs Lost Boyz, a nonprofit in a tough section of Chicago, that uses baseball to transform the lives of kids who come from extremely challenging circumstances. Two things stand out from my conversation with LaVonte. First, one of the biggest decisions he had to make was leaving his full time, secure government job to run Lost Boyz. As many Executive Directors do, he ran the organization for years part time while keeping his "regular" job. But after years of balancing both worlds he went "all in" and bet on himself and the organization. In the end, he was able to grow his agency from a $600,000 annual budget to around $2,000,000 annually in about 3 years when he put his full attention to building the organization. This struggle between fully immersing yourself in the nonprofit leadership role and leaving the security of a full time job is very common especially among start-ups and smaller organizations. The second thing that stands out is his approach to hiring. Instead of focusing on how good a candidate might look on paper, LaVonte and his team look at fit for their environment. How well does this candidate get along with the kids in the program, their parents/caregivers, donors, coaches, and other stakeholders? His best hires were those individuals who formed those personal connections and not those potential hires with the strongest resumes. Good lessons for all of us. #ThoughtfulThursdays #Nonprofitleadership #Hiring #Belief #Community #SportsBasedYouthDevelopment

Principal Owner | Full-Service Recruiting Expert | Non-Profit Vice Chair | Purpose-Driven Leadership
I recently had the privilege of being selected as the exclusive recruitment partner to represent one of the most prominent #nonprofit organizations in the country, who were seeking to hire a #DEI Manager to elevate their DEI initiatives. There were a few factors that made this particular search very rewarding including the fact this forward-thinking company is doubling down on their DEI efforts instead of cutting programming like many other organizations today…but I digress. Perhaps that is a post for another day. The most rewarding part? My client had reservations about meeting a candidate I strongly recommended, fearing she might be overqualified based on her experience and background. However, with a solid foundation of #TRUST and #PARTNERSHIP in place, I encouraged my client to meet with her, they heeded the advice, and the rest is history. The candidate joined the organization a few weeks back and has already exceeded expectations in making a significant impact in her role. This experience reaffirmed a few things for me; 1) Strong, trusting client relationships are essential, 2) Take the time to understand the true motivators of each candidate you represent (money is rarely the answer), 3) Always advocate for what you believe is best. This one felt good. Really good. #RecruitmentPartner #DEIManager #ClientPartnerships #Trust #Partnership #HRJobs

"We've returned to work, but we are working differently." We are managing geographically diverse teams. Team members may have complex health challenges + family needs. In nonprofit administration, the flexibility required to handle these new work challenges is costing MORE - while at the same time the old trope of "keep administrative costs low" continues. Nonprofit leader and Hiver Kimberly Lewis had so many insights to contribute to the conversation. In her decades long career leading nonprofit organizations (who have sometimes been social enterprises) she feels that successfully supporting staff while also performing your mission has never been more of a challenge. Nonprofiteers, particularly in Kimberly's organization Goodwill Industries of East Texas, are still doing the work 1-1, face to face. Touching hands and touching lives (with degrees and certifications required). Talented, passionate people with the right education are becoming harder to find - which means providing the needed services in a regulated industry becomes impossible. Hands up Hivers, how many leaders feel work has become more complex post-COVID?? #leadership #returntowork #nonprofit #soocialimpact
